With my family and me being big baseball fans, and me being a guitar player, I couldn't help myself. Playing guitar (especially a Strat) and watching baseball (especially the Tigers, or my daughter's fastpitch softball) are my passions in life.

So ...... I ordered the Detroit Tigers MLB Strat today. I plan to make a nice shadowbox display case to use to hang it in my studio. Maybe include my Buddy Guy autographed t-shirt, some Tigers logo guitar picks, autographed baseballs and other neat accents. I plan to play it often, but don't want it out collecting dust, and can't keep it stored away in a case. Hope it sounds and looks nice. I don't have any experience with the Mex Standard Strat (I have a 1997 US made Roadhouse Strat). Hope the Mexican Strats are nice.

Now ....... how to get Miguel Cabrera or Justin Verlander or Tori Hunter to sign it.
And ...... how to get my wife to stop rolling her eyes at me when I tell her I bought yet another guitar.

I got it real bad ( GAS that is). Please tell me someone out there understands. ("Put me in coach .... I'm ready to PLAY").

I'll post pics when I get, if anyone's interested.

Thx for listening.
Dave

I think that we all understand the GAS. I am interested to see pics when you get it, and yes, the MIM guitars are nice.

It'll be hard to put the Tigers Strat in a display case on the QT. Try to maintain your 8)

Maybe you can't afford a Cabrera autographed ball, but getting one from Joba ought to be easy enough. He might even pay YOU!

See you in the Playoffs,

Hey, stos2, did you order yours through fender.com? or through mlb.com?

I live on the Windsor side of the border and unfortunately Fender doesn't ship to Canada. I have a Detroit shipping address I can use so I tried that, but Fender can't even process Canadian credit cards.

I called the consumer relations hotline to get their reason and the reason given is that they commonly have to deal with returns and dealing with returns is a PITA when they have to go through customs. Fair enough I suppose. When I brought up that I wanted to ship to a Detroit address he said that their system simply isn't equipped to deal with credit cards that have Canadian addresses and to go to Walmart or Target in Detroit and buy a prepaid VISA. A silly solution, but I appreciate that the guy was trying to help.

Anyway, I then got the bright idea to instead order my Tigers strat through mlb.com's online store since they do processes Canadian credit cards and allow Canadian shipping addresses. Within an hour, my order status changed to "Item(s) located in stock" but nothing has shipped yet. To be fair, the site says "Item ships in 15-25 days" and it's only been 5 days so I'm not overly worried yet, but it just seems weird that the item I want is in stock (apparently), but they are just holding it in the warehouse rather than shipping it out?

Have you received yours yet? Has it even shipped?

Big Fan of the idea. I think its really great idea, but I also believe its meant to be a collectors guitar meant for hanging on the wall...

Why do I say this? Because the way the city and logo is positioned, it is not meant to be viewed while in a playing position, but rather hanging from a wall. But man, does it ever look cool!

etr102,

Sorry I didn't answer earlier. Been out of town. I will receive my guitar on Monday. I was originally told it could take 4-6 wks, but it came much faster than that.

Good luck with getting yours.

I received my Tigers MLB Strat today. (and btw, I ordered it from Fender direct, not MLB). This guitar looks so sweet. It is so shiny, it just glistens. This is the first maple neck I have owned, as I have always preferred rosewood. Took it for a test drive, and am really impresses so far. It sounds great. Setup out of the box is more than acceptable. May make some tweaks as time goes on. Have only played it thru a Fender SS amp. I will be getting my Fender Blues Deluxe amp from our band's rehearsal studio this week so I get to hear it's true personality. I was really surprised that I don't hear any hum from the pickups, in any position.

So far, I love what I see and hear from it. I'll post pics soon. I may be selling my 1997 Roadhouse Strat, if anyone is interested (3-Tone sunburst with rosewood neck. Great shape. Texas Specials.). Gotta keep peace in the house, and this guitar makes #9. Can't keep them all.

Can't wait to see that guitar (Fellow Tigers Fan) and we love guitar porn. As to the Roadhouse, selling is strictly against the rules here!

How were the fret ends, smooth or sharp. You've had the guitar for a few weeks now how do you like it or is it just for display. Would love to hear more of your opinions and thoughts on this guitar. Thanks.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to post recently. Been really busy. I'll post pics soon. As to the frets, they are very smooth, with no sharp edges. String height and setup pretty good out of the box. As I said, I may tweek a little as time goes on, but nothing major needed. The finish is georgeous. The neck is different than my American made Roadhouse Strat, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just a different shape. It sounds great. Great Blues tone. Pickups seem pretty hot/loud. The pickups are very quiet. I haven't heard the traditional buzz of the single coils, at least not very loud, and much less than my other three guitars with single coils. Plays really nice. It's my first time with a maple fretboard, normally I like rosewood. I'm pleasantly surprised how much I like this guitar. I was originally planning to display it in a case, and only play occasionaly. But, after playing it, I plan to "keep it in the rotation, on the active roster". I may even sell the Roadhouse. The honeymoon is not yet over, but so far, I'm a happy camper. So far, I don't see anything that I am unhappy with or anything I would change. I can't say enough how cool this thing looks. I can't wait for my next gig to see how many comments I get.

Upload your pics to a free photo hosting site (I use Photobucket) and then copy the image link and post it into your response, then highlight it and click the Img tab up above. Then click the preview button and you should see it. Or you can do a search and find a more complete set of instructions.

Just got the SF Giants MLB Strat. Very nice. Smooth Frets, nice set up/action. Pickups are the same I believe as on a standard MIM Strat, ceramic. I love gaudy guitars and I love my hometown boys the Giants. I am very happy right now with this strat

strat56brownie,

Congrats on the new guitar. Glad you like it. I was pleasantly surprised with mine. I got lots of compliments so far. I'm almost done making a guitar display case for it, to hang in my studio. If I can figure out how to post pics, I'll post them when I'm done. Posting pics doesn't seem to work. Not sure why.

What do you think of the finish? I'm sure the graphics are a decal of sorts, but you sure can't tell. What kind of music do you play, and what do you think of the guitar's sound for that type of music?
