I'm not an expert, but like many others, I play one on the 'Net! :D

The Fender Mexican Instruments Product Dating link -
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/mexican-instruments-product-dating/

The first entry is:

MN0 + 5 or 6 digits -1990-1991

Looks like it may be an early MIM in good condition.

How does it play?

Surprisingly it plays very well with a fantastic neck. It is a good example of a MIM strat and compares very favourably with many USA strats I've had.

Ah BruceSF, I had looked at your no. of posts (11) and not your no. of guitars (16) and thought you were a rookie with his first Strat.

Your quality comment is something I've heard quite a few times over the years, and almost always with a little wonder in the voicing. :)

I suppose the consumer impression of early MIJ Fender and other brands, was pretty much the same.

Maybe that Fender MIM guitar of yours will be a much sought after collectors piece someday! 8)

If it was a US stratocaster it would be considered vintage, but it's a Mexican :!: :!:
It's the same with G&L from Indonesia and Epiphone from China..there are so many snobs out there

So what you're saying Rob, is that the serial numbers are just random. Funny the guitar has a label from Guitar Village in England and I bought it 2nd hand in Holland......

Thanks Rob, I appreciate that and saved the information, that was a NOS unplayed neck with dust in the fretboard finish. I sanded and refinished it and it's beautiful....

...but I WANTED to see "the numbers I don't need to see", WAAAAAAA

I've ALWAYS been like that, there are no secrets around danagos!

...now where's that story on the Big Bang....

hiya BruceSF,

One thing I've learned is to "never say never" with regards to Fender. I'm not saying that they are random, but they can and will show up randomly...from manufacturing through point of sale. Typically, manufacturing does "runs". a quantity of one model....then a quantity of another....along with a run of colors etc. If all of the necks aren't needed for one run......they might be saved for another. If a problem occurs before final assembly, the neck might go back for rework....and on and on. Current tracking on MIA and MIM begins with the day it is completed in the factory and sent to our Distribution and anything internal after that. Not true with anything before 2004.
So.........anything is possible. If its important....perhaps carefully pull the neck and check any dates on the neck and/or pocket.
All the best,
rob

Well, nobody has ever told me NOT to include the numbers that you don't need to see....but for myself, I don't feel that its ethically good practice to make public- customer numbers--invoice numbers etc. In fact if you look at MOST of my posts, like the other one on this thread......I say "a dealer in Texas" rather than name the dealer. On this one, since Mars is no longer AND fairly big at the time, I was a tiny bit looser......so ya won't get the numbers from me lol.
Cheers!

OK Rob, I admire your ethics and appreciate your taking the time to inform me.

I don't need to see the numbers really, but I would like that Big Bang figured out! :P

A team of astronomers led by John Kovac of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics conducted an experiment at the South Pole called BICEP2, and announced that it had detected ripples from gravitational waves created in a violent inflationary event at the dawn of time, furthering the premise of an idea called cosmic inflation.

I'm pretty sure that's a first for the Fender Forums! 8)

Thanks for your help Rob. I wouldn't have bothered if I had those numbers. :)

So is that guitar from 1990 or 2000?
Many parts of it are dated, you know, so you could confirm or refute the info in Fender's database. Got a screwdriver?
