Hi,

I am having some issues with the g, b, and high e strings.

I play a MIM strat with cs '54 pickups, which I had professionally installed and set up.

I have noticed that when I play notee together on the higher frets of the higher strings, the notes get very muddled and dont even sound like two distinct notes. This isn't noticable to me playing clean, and it is tolerable using a little overdrive, but when I use fuzz or high gain it just sounds awful.

Is this just how 54 pups sound, or do I need to lower them, or is there something else I need to do? I don't know much about this kind of thing. The guy who installed me said the pickups probably wouldn't handle high gain very well because the mid pup isn't reverse wound, or something like that, but Thee notes all sound great played seperately, its just when playing double stops and chords high up the neck that I have the problem.

Thanks very much for any input you all may have. It is much appreciated!

yes, try lowering them... see if it helps. Can't hurt...

sounds like a bit of pickup warable from the pickups being up to high. I suggest you have the guitar plugged in the amp and play it while you adjust the pickups until you find the sound you're looking for.

+1

The magnetic pull is distorting the vibrational resonance of the strings. It's manifesting this phenomena more at the upper registers because the strings are closer to the pole pieces than if you were playing notes closer to the nut.

Andy, can you bring it back to the Professional who installed the Pups and did the setup :?:

There's a LOT of helpful people on here, with excellent knowledge of guitars, but it's a lot easier to analyze a problem like you're experiencing with the guitar in hand. 8)

Otherwise you get best guesses based on a brief description of what you're hearing.

Maybe that's all you need to get you on the right track, hope so. :D

You can adjust the pickup height.
Or the pole magnet height - if it is staggered or radiused.
