For my strat, that is.. Bad jokes aside..

Does anyone know where I can find a strat body in two tone sunburst finished in nitrocellulose. Three tone bursts crop up on ebay every so often but over the last month or so I've not seen any two tone bursts in the UK (they appear in the US occasionally* but because of the shipping fees / import tax I'd rather get it elsewhere)

Are there any shops that sell bodies seperately?

Anyone help me at all?

Cheers for any input :)

Try:

www.wdmusic.co.uk - their tobacco sunburst is two tone, but it's poly.

www.allparts.uk.com - they have a two tone but type of lacquer is not mentioned.

www.axesrus.com - several two tones, including nice timbers, finish not specified. Ask. Their stock changes frequently.

www.simscustom.com - UK answer to Warmoth; they'll make you anything you ask for, and have some very groovy stuff international Forum users will want to have a look at too.

Or look at the small adds at the back of Guitarist magazine. There's any number of luthiers out there who will make you an S-type body to order and are often not nearly as costly as you might imagine.

How's that to be getting on with?

Cheers mate. I'm familiar with axesrus but I didn't know their stock changed often. I guess I'll have to email the sites to check what kind of finish they're using. I'm looking specifically for nitro, you see, as I'd like to see my strat wear naturally over time :)

As for warmoth, thats US based isn't it? A bit expensive, I'll have to do some sums and work out which source is cheapest (ebay might be cheaper than a warmoth finished body)

It's not so much the initial cost of buying Stateside - Warmoth or whoever. The weak dollar is doing us big favours there, at the moment. It's the shipping and then most of all the import taxes Customs and Excise chuck on top when it arrives.

I purchase quite a bit from Stewart-MacDonald, because they make some tools and stuff nobody else in the world does. Fantastic service: a couple of weeks ago I placed a complicated order online on a Friday afternoon: goodies arrived Monday morning. Howzat? However: on a £68 order shipping by DHL was another £30. Then a couple of weeks later the Import Tax bill arrived: another £21. On a £68 spend. Man...

On the other hand: Fender's an American company. If you want a top line part, like a nitro finished body, then you may have to wait a while to find it this side of the pond. Two tone 'burst in nitro don't come up every day of the week even on US Ebay...

I'd think seriously about the luthier idea. You've a couple of good ones right there in Scotland, I believe. After all the ancilliary costs of purchasing overseas, possibly not as crazy as you might imagine.

Best of luck!

A couple guys I know have recently made partsocasters using similar Warmoth bodies (but with different finishes). Here's one of them:

WOW! That is a sensationally beautiful guitar!

Some shipping and tax costs seem worth it when you look at that one, eh, Highbinder?

Before ordering, just get a comparative pricing from Sims Custom, though. After the hidden extras, they might be competitive…

Yeah, google "Kavanagh Customs" - I got my black nitro body from there!

That is an excellent link, Ed: new to me. Thanks for that one.

And I tell you what, that is a substantially better price than Warmoth, even before shipping and tax. Amazing: I presume the quality was good?

Further: I notice they are selling a two-tone T-type bod with nitro on Ebay for £150 right now. Not bad!

I think Ed has found you the answer to your search, Highbinder.

(Sorry, I'm all over this thread - but this stuff is right up my street. )

Yeah the body is excellent, I've had it about 2 years and since I'm a clapton fan I've let it be bashed about a bit - it looks awesome. Everyone should have a blackie!

You should be able to find what you want right here.

Even though this is a US retailer, you might want to email them to see if they'll put a different price on the package when shipping.

Aye yes it does seem quite tastey.

Lovely body, and quite reasonably priced, too! I think I'll email them after I check my bank balance

I'm already planning a Tele with a AAAA maple cap, double-bound body in a kinda dark wine-burst finish, with a bound maple fingerboard, abalone dot markers - and all for the price of a MIM Fender (excluding hardware, of course). Then I'll put some BareKnuckle pickups in...

Happy days :D

I came very cloe to building my own telecaster before I got my strat. Good luck on your adventures :)

I noticed they have "Other Cap +£ask" on the price section. I wonder how much they'd charge for a spalted maple top, infact, I wonder how that'd even look on a strat.. Hmm..
