You didn't say it was Fender did you, just Strat? Which isn't the same thing necessarily.

Those are just uncoated wires on the pots. Saw some like that on an old mij non-Fender once.

These pots, cap, and pickups are identical to the mid-1980s Made in Japan Strats. Later in the 1980s Fender Japan moved over to the smaller pots. The 5-way switch should have a sticker on it (if this is not a squire) that says YM-50, but that switch looks odd. I have a box full of these pots and pickups. No Picts of the guitar?????

There is YM-50 sticker on the switch.

Here is the body (I would expect some sort of a stamp if this were an MIA strat).

Without seeing the headstock, or the bridge it is hard to completely id the guitar. But it looks like you could have a mid 1980s Made in Japan Fender reissue body with pickups. The bridge saddles should have Fender written on them and it should be a 6-screw mount if it is Fender. If the pickguard is a single ply 8-hole it would be a 57 reissue. If it is a 3-ply with 11-holes it would be a 62. There was also a contemporary strat with the 11 hole pickguard as well. Again, without the neck it is pretty hard to say. There should be a stamp in the neck socket with some letters. I see this one does not gave them. More Picts please...

After reading Xhefri's post I started looking through my pic files and lo & behold, my memory had failed me again.

Same wiring and Pots, but someone must have changed out the 5 way switch before I bought it, it has "CRL" & "Made in USA" on it.

This one is an '89 Fender MIJ with the serial # I00xxxx and ST-357x on the neck heel.

that mij strat has a redundant ground from the pot to the switch.modern strats and vintage as well didn't. intresting. the shielding should've took care of that. nice though.

It is obvious, too, that someone has modded this pickguard. Not sure what is going on with the mini-switch but I bet it is the old neck + bridge mod which sometimes lets one turn all 3 pickups on at the same time with the 5-way is in the middle position. Also this has the earlier cap as Fender Japan moved to the green ones later in the 1980s and the shortly after that they started using those small pots. Too bad Nikola Tesla is not letting us know a little more.... so we can see if our guessing is correct! BUT to answer the question at hand, NO THIS IS NOT A USA STRAT!!!

Xhefri,

you are correct on the mini switch, this is to play all 3 p/ups at once.
Unfortunately I don't have a neck for this guitar, but only loaded body.

Its a single ply p/guard with 8 holes.

Herewith a few more pics:

No pictures of the whole body front and back? If you could take one of the whole pickup route on the body that would be helpful. These saddles do not look like MIJ Fender as they all say Fender on each saddle (as far as I know). The finish on the body and the bridge look suspect. It could be that Japanese pickup and switched could have been used on other knock-off guitars made in Asia. Or this body could have MIJ Fender components.
