Just wondering what full size humbucker would be the best PU to insert into the bridge position of a strat to give a sound in the ballpark of a Gibson LP or maybe SG.

No hoots of derision please, I have several strats and am happy with the sound in most cases; I just want to have one that has a bit more versitility.

Oh, and yes, I am well aware that it is not possible to make a strat with its different tonewoods, different scale length and different (double cut) body shape sound fully like an LP, I just want to get in the ballpark.

I believe the Gibson PAFs sound a little scooped compared to something relatively mid-heavy like the Fender Diamondback.

I have heard the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates is a reasonal candidate; I would really appreciate some advice here.

Thanks all

No pickup will truly make a Strat sound like a Les Paul, but there are number of options that will kinda' get you in the ball park. If you are looking for a PAF type sound, you can go for a Duncan '59 or Pearly Gates (it's a different pickup than the Pearly Gates Plus that they made specifically for Fender). You could, of course, try an actual Gibson pickup as well.

The only way to get a Les Paul sound is to buy a Gibson Les Paul. If you take a Gibson Les Paul pickup and install it into a Fender Stratocaster....It will sound like a Fender Stratocaster with a Les Paul pickup, It will not sound like a Les Paul.

If you are looking for more beef, you might try a Joe Barden in that position. They have quite a bit more honk to em.

FWIW

+1 on the joe barden they kick $@!, won't sound like a LP but it will be ballzy for sure. I'm all for strats sounding like strats and LP being LPs

Seymour Duncan Distortions. They make my Strat sound as heavy (if not heavier) than the EMGs in my old Les Paul.

Depends what your idea of a Les Paul sound is. Have a look at Bare Knuckle Crawlers, they work well in a Strat. If you're after more output then BKP do a nice selection of pickups geared more towards driving an amp hard.

Lots of soundclips there too.

Also You might want to consider a single to dual coil switching capability...
But It will not sound anything like or close to a Les Paul .

Still to this day, I don't quite understand why anyone would want a Strat to sound like a Les Paul.
I never wanted my Strats to mimic my Les Paul but .... :?

The different scale length is enough that it will never sound similar, even if you change both the pickups and bridge. The shorter scale length of the LP means the strings will have less tension at the same frequency than a Strat, which affects the sound quite a bit.
