This has always been my favourite special issue Strat, the Jaguar themed model in British racing green with jaguar fretboard inlays.

That's nice, not too ostentatious. Looks like special knobs on there too.

I particularly like the gold plated Telecaster-style closed pickup covers, those are very classy indeed.

Some time ago, maybe 10 or 15 years or so, Fender produced a limited run of NHL themed Telecasters. 100 guitars were produced for each team. At the time of their release many music stores wanted to obtain the ones marked with "Number 1 of 100" per usual practice for limited run guitars but AXE Music in Edmonton did the smart thing and specifically ordered guitars with a number correlating to the number of a well known player for a given team. They have #99 for the Oilers as well as the Kings and both have been autographed by "The Great One". They also have #66 for the Penguins and IIRC I believe it may also be autographed by Super Mario. In all I think they have 10 guitars on display, priced at $10K+ each. I once asked about them and they indicated if anyone was serious about buying one they would likely just raise the price right there on the spot as they have no intention of ever selling them.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My only question is why did fender not go just one step further, and make the necks out of Ash, and get Louisville Slugger to burn their trademark in the back of the neck...That would have made these strats a 'home run'...pun very very much intended...I should be on Fender's idea committee...who's with me?

Ya got my vote! :)

Nice idea, how about Rawlings leather lined case?

I'm not sure how well Ash would work as a neck, but I know that neither FMIC nor MLB wanted to dilute their share of profit with Louisville Slugger. 8)

Keep thinking, you're doing great, just send your ideas in via the Forums and consider yourself on the IDEA COMMITTEE! (honorary position)

I probably would've bit on day 1 of the release if they would've done that.
Something I've been wondering about, why aren't the saddles Fender stamped on these mlb edition strats? Did they use a lower quality set of saddles?

well, lets say a Louisville slugger baseball bat, is what, $50? lets call it a nice round $75...there's no way the rights to a brand(the hot stamp) alone would make the price go up even that much per unit, although they might charge that much or more, and I'm sure Louisville Slugger would like the extra revenue and advertising it would bring...Make these guitars in Corona, California for roughly the same cost as they're made in mexico, but just re-purpose some of the wood you're using for the bodies anyway, for the necks (that alone could potentially save money)...and here is an idea!...make the bodies out of pine (like the benches the players sit on)...thats another way to save money...That would mean 3 American Institutions are coming together to make one great product. FMIC, MLB and L.S....charge $2699 for them with a nice Glove Leather interior case, and a baseball leather tolex covered case with baseball stitching...you got yourself a nice piece of history there...but of course, that takes these guitars out of a lot of peoples realms...more into serious collectors and fans of both things...I bet you each respective team would own a few...probably get them signed and sell them for some charity...

Nice work if you can get it, do they need anyone part time? :D

At 5:30 am that seems like a pretty good idea...have to see it in the sunshine...

...and thanks for sharing...if you come up with anything else...just send it on...no matter how outrageous...my kids came up with the MLB theme...

Anyone else get one and like it? I'm really thinking of getting the SF Giants strat. Were the frets smooth or sharp?

Just got the SF Giants MLB Strat. Very nice. Smooth Frets, nice set up/action. Pickups are the same I believe as on a standard MIM Strat, ceramic. I love gaudy guitars and I love my hometown boys the Giants. I am very happy right now with this strat

To show you where my head is at I also own the Wayne Kramer Strat, Buck Owens Teles, a Playboy Centerfold guitar, Jenna Jameson Flying V w.ith her licking the guitar, Powerpuff Girls guitar, Buddy Guy Polka Dot. Sold my Paisley Strat and Tele thinking of buying the Tele again if I see it on CL.

Anyway, I actually play most of these guitars, because that's fun for me. GO GIANTS!

Thought I'd bump this thread and say I'm still happy with the strat! It might be the easiest strat I have to bend strings. No buyers remorse here and a nice SF Giants collectable.
