So Fender has announced Major League Baseball team themed strats will be available March 31st. They appear to be Mexican made. I personally have only ever owned USA Strats in the past (have 2 currently) but I hear Mexico's quality is very good these days. I"m thinkin of getting one of these.

Apparently a "special printer" is used to put the designs/logos/etc on.

Do you guys have any experience with past similar Fender limited edition themed guitars? What would you expect the quality of the finish to be like? Is this something that will chip away to nothing in no time or is this something that could be a nice display piece for many years to come?

What a great idea! I am not a big baseball fan, but I can see that this could be very popular with those that are. And yes, the MIM Strats are very good, quality guitars.

Do you have a link to these guitars and/or any pics?

http://www.fender.com/features/mlb/

From what I've read the asking price is $799 which in my opinion is very reasonable. From the videos and pics, these guitars look really sharp (if a little tacky). I just hope the quality of the finish is good.

To each his own I guess...

Even though I actually am a pretty fair MLB Fan (Bucket List includes seeing a game in all 30 Major League Parks - currently at 24).

Bravo Fender for discovering yet another niche for marketing guitars... !!

$800 for a $600 guitar!

But to me at least, it seems as oxymoronic as a Harley-Davidson Edition Ford F-150...

Still, I think I'm gonna holdout for the FSR Steinway & Sons Telecaster !!

cheers!

While watching the video I said to myself "please don't have the cardinals" and sure enough they do. Hopefully I don't see 1 for sale in person because I'm not sure I could walk away without buying it. I'd be 1st in line for $600, but not for $800.

I've been a Yankee fan for over 55 years, go to a few and watch (and nap to :) ) way too many baseball games.

When I saw the news about MLB and Fender I was underwhelmed. Marketing people looking for "synergy"! How about more excellence in product rather than cheap logo overlays.

In the video the Pinstripes/Yankee logo wasn't too bad looking, actually. Maybe cause I'm a fan. I've got a LOT of friends who love their regional team and anyone who's playing against the Yankees!

Buy one, No way! You could pay me to play one though. 8)

Guys, I appreciate the opinions very much. I think the idea behind it is local pride. You know how front men of bands commonly wear baseball jerseys or hockey jerseys from where they are from, well this is a way of extending that I guess.

Personally, I want one just to be a display piece. I'll probably just mount it on the wall and play it on rare occasions.

I guess my main question is about the quality of the finish (which I assume is done with a silk screen). Does (or has) Fender produce any other silk screen finish guitars out of Mexico? Is the Buddy Guy Strat done with a Silk Screen? What is the quality of the finish? Do you guys expect it to be completely junk? I hope for $800 it SHOULD be decent.
