Fender Japan models with Texas Specials are what they say they are, although they are a different version- hence the visual differences. They are made in Japan.

That's not what Fender-Japan has to say......

Perhaps you need a remedial lesson or two in the king's english as well: the spec's are printed in it and there is an unmistakable photo showing a boxed set of MIA Texas Special pickups.

I pretty much decided that i will change the pickups altogether. I'm considering installing CS '69 but i also like the Vintage Noiseless... more reading required.
Btw, thanks all of you for the input, it's much appreciated
Next stop: pickup choice

If you're thinking of making changes "under the hood" you might consider new Pots and a 5 way Switch. Most consider those import switches an equipment failure waiting to happen.

What pickups to choose is a question for the ages and there are a LOT of opinions to be had on here.

The first question will be: What Artist/Song/Genre/Tones are you trying to emulate?

Good luck on your Quest! :)

oh, that's a new one to me.... so any recommendations in this dept. ?

As for emulating sounds of artists.... hmmm this is a tough one, because i don't learn songs of any musicians and i don't aim to sound like anyone in particular. I mostly play from my imagination, which itself is HEAVILY influenced by '60-70's Frank Zappa, but he hardly ever used Fender guitars, mostly playing Gibsons (SG, LP and semi-hollows). other musicians I'm into are Santana (until 1980's) and Jimmy Page (all the way). None of them are big on Fender guitars....
The only Strat-driven band i listen to (a lot) is Iron Maiden

Basically I'm looking for a warm sound but brighter that of an LP. I hate screaming harmonics a la Z.Wylde and if my guitar ever makes such a sound i will quickly throw it in a bin and burn the sucker to ashes.

mmm...electronics are easy & cheap...CTS 250K Pots (3) and an Oak Grigsby 5 way Switch. You should be able to get them all, AND a new Output Jack for around $20 to $25.

As for Pickups...I can give you one man's opinion. My favorite are a boutique set of Amalfitano SP's (pricey but worth it), just a lil' bit overwound, never muddy. I also like (and own) Lace Sensors (used on Strat Plus) and the SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) that Fender used after Lace until their (current) N3 Noiseless.

Amalfitano - http://www.amalfitanopickups.com/sp_stratocaster_pickups.php

You can usually find sound clips online of Pup recommendations on YouTube.

Lace Sensors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oMAplGl7nI#action=share

SCN - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCziRwzz4sM

Hope that helps.

Well it had been mentioned, my 2005 CIJ strat electrics were pretty ropey and it wasn't thru use!

Easy to swap and easy to work on, consider utilizing the lower tone pot to control the bridge pickup too while your in there. Options abound.

Pickup choice is extensive :D
Another option is a loaded pickguard where its just a complete swap over apart from the 2 wires to the output jack.

I armed myself with a solder iron and started desoldering everything on that strat and replacing the parts with those from a Squier. I replaced the 5-way switch and still the middle pickup wouldnt work properly. volume pot next then tone pot.... still nothing. i then decided to put a fresh solder on a coil wire where it's attached to the bobbin and, low and behold, the pickup came alive and kicking!

soldering all wires back on original parts also improved the responsiveness on pickups although i plan to replace pots and switch in near future anyway.
I can't remember the last time i used a solder iron so i call it a success

Good for you, it's great anytime you can get it working on your own.

Let the madness begin!

it's funny how i thought i would not mess about with that guitar because i dont feel competent to do anything with electrics and modification is out of question.....
Well few weeks into the ownership and it has been torn apart and put back together, and it work BETTER hahaha

I still have to figure out how to remedy an abrupt loss of volume when i roll down vol knob below 5-4...

Well done! :)

Just a few years ago I hadn't handled a solder iron or owned an electric guitar in my entire life. Now I routinely take them apart, solder, mod, whatever to improve them. Have restored a '93 Plus and built my own from well chosen parts.

I don't know why the sudden loss of volume, maybe the resistive element in your Pot (potentiometer) is worn? Anyway, you should plan on replacing all three pots, the 5 way switch and the capacitor. It's easy enough to find the diagrams for wiring online and it will ensure optimal playing for the life of the guitar.

And YOU CAN DO IT! :D

It is VERY interesting that your Fender body looks almost exactly like the one I used in an HH Strat project. The body came to me as only a body from someone I knew/trusted who told me it was a true Fender body. Also knowing that Fender-Japan made HH guitars (pretty sure anyway), I am wondering now after seeing your guitar that maybe my body is a Fender MIJ body ... hmmm ?
