I have to admit that I've been a guitar snob for a while. I've always felt that only American made some MIJ strats were worthy guitars for me to own. Well, that all change today when I visited one of my regular pawnshops. They had this hanging on the wall with a price of $350. I liked the look of the guitar so I asked to see it. I plugged it in and began to play. The strings weren't exactly new,but I still got a great idea what this stock guitar is capable of. The neck on this guitar felt perfect in my hand and the overall feel of the guitar felt very comfortable. I've bought a lot of guitars at this pawnshop so they usually give me a killer deal. I talked him down to $180 out the door with a SKB Freedom hard case, New 3pk of Fender string and a Perri's leather guitar strap. I figured with all the other stuff thrown in, I gave about $80 for the guitar. I still have to set the guitar up and put new strings on this baby, but I'm very impressed with how well this guitar sounds and plays. Here's some quick pics.

Nice!

That's some beautiful rosewood on that fretboard.

Rawk on!

Schweet geetar you got there! Guitar snobbery can make you miss some fine guitars...lesson learned! MIM, MIJ, MIA, and even MIC can produce some good guitars and also some less than stellar ones.

Play your new guitar like you stole, because at that price you kinda did!

I really love the guitar feels like an old friend. It was my first Fender and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

I did update the pups to Fender 57 - 62's based on a certain forum members excellent advice (Arjay).

Well done and play the hell out of it.

Tom

That's a beautiful guitar you have there. I would have liked the color to have been like yours, but for the deal I got on the guitar, I can learn to warm up to Lake Placid Blue. Thanks for the heads up on those pickups. I'm going to to some homework on them and they could end up being the upgrades. :)

No worries at all, I've got to say I love the colour of your strat! Definitely want one of those.

It looks in great condition too.

The pups are great and sound like a strat should, made by fender and are cheap compared to boutique builders. I would recommend them but of course it depends what kind of sound you are after.

I know you will get great feedback from the guys on this forum, Arjay included, on the pup options you come up with.

I have not looked back since installing them though - Just wish I could play better.

Oh and sorry for the large pictures! Not sure how to make them smaller.

Tom

The maple neck has some beautiful figured grain on it, very rare for a MIM Standard. :)

When you log into Photobucket you'll find a set of image-editing tools that can be used to reduce the size of your pics.

Actually, the ones you've posted thus far are just about the right size for the forum. At least for my aging eyes......

You got a fine looking guitar there.

Rawk on!
