Hello all!
Since i am a beginner in the electric guitar world, i would appreciate some advice on the general condition and value of a guitar i have an eye on. The owner says it's been the best years for Fender with this model, he changed to PU. The sound is quite impressive but i noticed some small scratches and chips here and there and i don't know how far it can affect the guitar's value.
Otherwise, what is the best Strat model for blues playing.
Attached are pics.
Thanks again for any advice you can provide, it is greatly appreciated.

Well it appears to be a Strat Plus, but those came with those pickups. So are you sure they have been changed? The nut was changed from a Wilkinson roller nut to the LSR version. And the tuners should be locking tuners. I don't know what the price is, but around me they usually go for about $700, and usually are priced higher on Ebay.

IMHO, that's an early-ish '93 White Strat Plus and JasonSD caught the mods, LSR Nut & the Locking Tuners.

The Nut is better and the tuners can be easily replaced, same guide pin pattern (I would hope).

The Neck Pocket Crack is probably minor, but you should double check that it's finish only.

That would be a good deal at $700, usually around $900 on ebay USA. 8)

The logo on the neck pickup isn't visible in the close-up of the pickups, and too small to read in the pic of the whole guitar.

So it's at least possible that the neck pickup has been replaced with some other model of Lace Sensor.

Swoop, I get the impression that you might live in some country other than the USA. If so, it can be helpful to tell us where you are when asking how much a guitar is worth. Outside of the USA and Canada, Fender guitars tend to be much more expensive.

As for "best Strat to play the blues", any of them. There's really no "best", just whatever sound appeals to you. (There are millions of great blues tones -- Clapton doesn't sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan, neither sound like Rory Gallagher.)

Hello... Now are you buying the guitar as a musical Instrument or as a financial security... :?:
Hopefully the former as the latter will not please you with soon to be future returns...

Vintage guitars may be worth their weight in gold but only if the trend is towards that particular model... Everything else ( post 60's ) should be considered with much skepticism...
As much as we love our Fender's, they are not for the most part investments, rather rapidly depreciating assets.

Now if the guitar you are contemplating feels like the one, then by all means buy it...
But buy it because it's the correct instrument for you, not because someone else is speculating that it is worth this much and will increase....

Play Music.......

Edit ... P.S. As mentioned that crack below the 19th fret on the high E is a :?:
There shouldn't be a crack there, that corner section is the spot which would reflect the result of someone forcibly bending the neck when playing...
Without actually handling the guitar I would definitely not consider it for more than $500
Caveat Emptor .... :?:

I agree with the above. Don't get caught up with the whole "this guitar is the best" thing. The best guitar is the one that helps you get the sound you want and best allows you to express yourself. I played a lot of great guitars when I first started out because a friend was and is a vintage guitar reseller. But the day I walked into McCloskey music and picked up my strat, I knew within a few minutes that it was "the one". That said, it was years before I came close to doing it justice.

As for that guitar, if it sounds good to your ear, the only thing I would be concerned about is the crack where the body meets the neck. I have seen that before where people over tighten the screws unevenly and over time the stress causes a crack at the joint. It's rarely a problem, but just make sure it is only superficial.

...The sticker on the back of the headstock is for a music shop in Montreal, Canada.

I'm definitely not a detective. But it's fun to play one on the internet.

By the way, guys. I'm struggling to imagine why someone would swap out nice locking tuners for non-locking ones. Or do the Wilkinson to LSR nut switch? Visibly, that is what has happened, but Jeff Beck and I will politely disagree with the idea that the LSR is an improvement...

Swoop, I'm going to suggest that those downgrades and the botching of the rosewood behind the nut take a significant slice off the asking price. Time for some bargaining! Good luck.

Cheers - C

I was wondering what I was seeing there at the nut.

The LSR nuts have a little piece to fill in the gap because the Wilkinson is wider. I don't see anything really wrong with the rosewood.

I like the Wilkinson over the LSR, but sometimes the Wilkinson will become damaged and have a rattle in them when you play open strings. This might of happened, and a LSR is a lot easier to find than a Wilkinson.

I was wondering what I was seeing there at the nut.

Behind the Nut is the standard plastic Adaptor to replace Wilkinson roller nuts. I believe they're sold with all LSR Nuts.

Adapting to a conventional Nut Slot requires delicate wood work. Replacing a Wilkinson is pretty easy.

FWIW, I liked it better than the Wilkinson.

And here's what a neck looks like without a nut on it.

Ignore the measurement, that was for someone on here a long time ago.

To clear some things up, if no one hasn't already. This is a 1993 American Std. Stratocaster that has been transformed into a '90s era Strat Plus. I owned a Strat Plus, and overall, they are great guitars. According to my price guide, a Am. Std in good condition an unaltered is about $700 on the low side and $875 on the high side. The fact that this guitar has been altered does lower its value. I'd pay no more than $675 - $700 for it, and that'sonly because I like Lace Sensors. The roller nut kind of bothers me - only because I don't know who did the work or if I'd have problems with it later.

It seems like a nice guitar.

What makes you think it's an american standard? It would have string trees, or holes for string trees if it was, and I don't see any evidence of that.

I'll add to that strap locks...

But to me that nut conversion isn't the tidiest I've ever seen.

Now I'm no pricing expert, but I like to pretend I am on the internet  But I'd like to say I'd drop $700 ($830nz) on it any day of the week. Given a guitar like this is really $1200 nz in my neck of the woods.
