This kind of rip-off on ebay really ticks me off. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this neck being a fake.

The listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/261426463329?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The seller bevete out of Seattle claims this is a Fender neck with a FIFTY YEAR OLD LOGO on it and asking $999 or Best Offer and s&h is over $39 in the USA!

They're also selling a White Fender Stratocaster signed by Leon Hendrix for $5,420.

To my eye that's fake too.

No COA, can anyone authenticate LEON's signature?

In my decal envelope I have several of those "FIFTY YEAR OLD LOGOS".

I'd never waste one on a Mighty Mite neck though.

So...it's about $100 for the neck and $900 for the fake Fender logo that wasn't even applied correctly?

As for the guitar singned by "Leon Hendrix"...lol.

Well if any of you are interested, I will be happy to sign your basketballs on behalf of my cousin. It will be just like he signed it, only it would be me!!

+1

And send me your Strat pickups -- for only $149.99 each (plus tax & return postage) I'll turn them into authentic "AY" coils.

Obviously the neck and guitar are cheap Strat copies with Fender logos stuck on them.

Real logos do exist -- up until the '90s Fender wasn't strict about them and every Authorized Service Center had rolls of all the various logos. Lots of those made it into circulation. Of course they're worthless once they're stuck on a cheap copy so I'm not going to waste time researching to see if those look right.

Jimi's brother Leon is a working guitarist. He's recorded at least 2 albums and done a couple of nationwide tours, and actually played some pretty big places. So he's a more successful guitarist than I am, and probably more successful than most of the people who post on this forum. He may very well have autographed that guitar.

I'd almost say that the autograph is probably real since nobody would bother to forge it. But then again, no one in his right mind would think that sticking Fender decals (whether real or fake decals) on those cheap POS things would make them valuable, so maybe the crazy seller thought a fake Leon sig would be more believable than a fake Jimi sig.

Well, strayedstrater I had no idea there was a real Leon Hendrix until today.

As for being successful as a guitarist that's open to interpretation. Being successful as Jimi's brother would be mine.

More power to him, I wish Jimi was my brother! 8)

This is his Wiki:

Leon Hendrix (born January 13, 1948) is the brother of late American rock guitarist/singer and icon Jimi Hendrix. He is an artist, songwriter and guitarist who began playing the guitar later in life and has released several albums. He is best known for his original artwork.

Hendrix suffered from drug addiction and he spent time in prison for minor offenses.[1] After seeking drug treatment, Hendrix has been clean for over twelve years and lives with his girlfriend who is a doctor in Los Angeles, California.

Hendrix was employed for many years as an expert draftsman by Boeing.

In recent years the father of six and grandfather of four has been attempting to make a living from music and art.[2] The Leon Hendrix Band released one album in 2006, Keeper of the Flame, as well as the earlier Seattle Rain.[3] Hendrix has also toured with The Magic Carpet Ride performing large venue concerts. Hendrix's wish is to keep his brother Jimi's legacy alive by dedicating his songs to Jimi when he performs.

Over the years Leon has sued Janie Hendrix, adopted sister of Jimi Hendrix. When Hendrix's father, Al, died in 2002, his will left control of the company Experience Hendrix to Janie and her cousin, Robert Hendrix, exluding Leon.

From a Rolling Stone interview:

How long have you had this kind of reception in Europe?
It's unbelievable. All our concerts sell out, and we broke the record in Krakow, Poland, with 7800 guitars [playing at once for a Guiness Book of World Records attempt]. I was the main host. There were, like, 20,000 people there. This whole country has set up a Jimi Hendrix thank-you tour. I mostly play in Italy and Germany. It's awesome, because we never got any money from the Jimi Hendrix estate, which is run by my Japanese sister. Jimi's looking out for me, buddy. 'Cause I can't get a job at McDonald's [laughs].

Leon must play fake strats, that would make sense.

This link is to the Amazon mp3 of Leon Hendrix' "Keeper of the Flame". You can listen to an excerpt of each of 10 songs and decide if you want to buy for $0.99 each.

http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-Flame-Leon-Hendrix-Band/dp/B00198L1F0

Some titles are Jimi and Me, Voodoo River and Purple Flame and that may give you a good idea of his musical style as well.

Personally I'd cut guitar on stage with him or compare recordings anytime. I just lack his pedigree! Now if only my name was Danny Ray Vaughan!!

Really, I wish him well and he may put on a heck of a show, but the recordings don't show me that and the act seems wholly derivative.

But you can own an autographed guitar by an authentic Hendrix for $5K or so and that may be collectible enough for ya! :|

While I can believe that Leon has had some success, after listening to his work, I think it had more to do with his name than his talents. But that's just me, and I have learned that in the music biz the the thirsty man in the desert takes what water he can find. So more power to him for making an honest living. But pimping my brother's name to get gigs isn't something I would do.

The Hendrix family appears to be an $80 million dollar train wreck, which is sadly par for the course in situations like these. The sister and cousin lost control of some of the trusts due to their mismanagement, but the judge left them in control of the Hendrix companies which feed those trusts. The judge also ruled that the father had good reason to cut Leon out of a share and denied him standing, in spite of a $3 million legal offense paid for by a developer "friend" of his. Maybe threatening to sue your father to get a piece of your brother's estate while on drugs was not the best move.

And if anyone is interested, I found what I think may be one of Bruce Springsteen's nose hairs. Was going to ebay it, I figure I would offer it to you guys first.

To me that guitar does not look like a fake Fender but rather a Fender Squier... The body seems to be thin.... like some of the Squier models that are 1-5/8" thick instead of the standard 1-3/4"
That neck truss rod pocket is appropriate for Squier's....
As for paying for that signature.... As the old adage goes...

" There's a sucker born every minute... "

edit... I just zoomed in to the guitar and neck and looking at the hardware, it appears that to me it is 99% a Squier neck and a Squier guitar... The hardware is the less expensive type on the Squier's....

That is a keen eye there 53magnatone! Squier all the way, and not one of the good Squier's either!

******UPDATE*******

I had written the seller advising him that the neck was not a Fender and that he should correct his listing.

He has given me the courtesy of a reply:

YES
we have that in pink and yellow

- bevete

I think it's a conspiracy involving an Interior Designer and a Motorcycle gang!!

Yeah, Squiers, but a lot of the Chinese fakes have non-insert truss rod holes.
