So many options on CL (Vancouver)

I just don't know wha to get. My budget is 200-300 and the only requirements that I must have are:

SSS config
tremolo bar
soft shell case
has to have the black big FENDER Stratocaster logo on it, instead of the silvered one with the serial number on the front of the headstock

I don't mind maple or rosewood and the colour of the body doesn't bother me too much.

Serial number on the front and black letter !!! It is only for American made Strat ?

With this low budget the best you can find is a Classic Vibe serie. For the price is a good guitar.

I think the most recent Mexican std has a black logo, bit unsure about the serial number placement though. However whether you can get a latest model std strat in your budget I don't know. They didn't come with a bag so that will always be an extra a seller is including.

With your budget I'd forget about a bag for now and spend it all on the guitar. You're more likely to find bag on its own on cl.

Due to your price ceiling, your choices are going to be limited....

1st should be getting a hardshell case with the guitar, soft/gig-bags are secondary and really not very good for any type of impact...

A Standard Strat. from 2010 or earlier is going to cost about $350-$500 on the used market..
That is one without major problems... Cheap does not mean good, especially on Craig's list.

The MIM line is really where you'll find close to what you want.. Most MIA's are not going to fall into your budget....

I always find it amusing when everybody says get a hardcase.

For all we know the guitar might never leave the house, or only make the odd trip in a car. You don't NEED a HARDCASE for that. My hardcases haven't moved from under my bed since I stopped gigging 5 years ago.

I'm pushed for space at home if I had a hardcase for each guitar I'd have to make a bed out of them. I've got an acoustic hardcase that lives in the attic because it's big enough to be buried in.

I've got a decent padded bag which I use when I take a guitar somewhere, and guess what in 12 years of playing I Havnt dropped it, or damaged a guitar inside it, or run over it. Unless you're going to practice and gigs weekly I say you don't need a hard case.

And to top it off, the guys budget is already severely limited, you really think a good way to spend it is on a hardcase? It'd be worth more than whatever guitar he could afford to put in it afterwards!

Everybody always says 'buy the best guitar you can'. Spend your budget on a guitar, get a decent bag used next month for cheap, don't throw it in the middle of the road. Sorted.

Why?

In all other respects, there should be a lot of inventory in the $250-$350 range of late-model MIM Strats. My CL strategy is patience. Just look every day and you will see what you like come along.

As for the hard/soft case controversy...I'll offer this:

I take my 2007 anywhere in it's soft case (even baseball practice) without any question and I've had no problems; I'm careful with it. But...I'd never consider using it to move my 1975; that lives in its OHSC. Go figure.

Cheers.

Why limit yourself to CL. Why don't you check out pawnshops. Pawnshops are goldmines for me. I picked up a 2009 American Special w/ an Original 70's Fender orange lined molded case for $400 out the door just last month. Just the case is worth about $150 by itself. You have to HUNT for the good stuff and make the rounds, but it takes time and a lot of patience Here's a pic of my 2 tone Sunburst Am. Special in the case.

That's a real good find. I guess it depends on what area of the country you live in because I can't find any deals here in NJ. I can tell you that a Pawn Shop in NJ or near Washington DC area have the means to scour the internet for comparative pricing. Sometimes they don't know what they have, but that is getting more rare.

I went to a large Pawn Shop in Arlington, VA and they had a guitar tech working there!

Still money talks and if you're willing to walk away from a deal because it's too good or not good enough, the one that's just right will come along. Patience is your friend.
