I'm really interested in Randy California and watch his stuff on youtube all the time. Most of the time he uses a black Strat; earlier on he had a nice maple (?) colored Strat.

Near the tuners it doesn't look like the word Fender, but some word, maybe Olympic, that starts with the letter O or C.

Was he using a Fender? Any ideas on what pickups, frets, strings? Thanks - Ed

I'm too lazy to search. Post us a link to the vid you're talking about and we'll take a look...

Thanks - Ed

PS- "If I Miss This Train" is the song, it is spectacular in the 1978 version with Randy and Dickie Betts.

Geez, I can't make that out, the camera doesn't focus on the peghead closely enough. I've been wracking my mind for a maker of Stratolike guitars, probably in the boutique field, who has a name with a curly letter like that at the start. No luck.

Roller nut, by the look of it, and I'm trying to make out the pups set-up. Something strange going on with the bottom of the pickguard too, isn't there?

Sorry, can't help. I can see why that number would work well with Dickie Betts, though. Made for him, that one...

Refers to
Perspex Stratocaster, in other words, the body was made of a version of plexiglass!

I am not a musician, but it looks like a Strat, not sure his pickups were aligned like on a Strat. And the guitar is black with decals and stuff.

Thought it might have said Godin guitar, sent them an email to find out. California was a fierce environmentalist, may have felt he saved lumber by using plastic.

In any case, very intriguing musician. - Ed

Hmmm... Well, it could indeed be Godin's logo. But it doesn't actually look like their headstock. Unless their's is different now than it used to be: don't know much about Godin's history.

That's either someone else's name on a Fender headstock, or it's another maker with very similar peghead indeed. Which happens.

Someone here will know, and then we'll probably be slapping our foreheads and saying, "duh!".

BTW: I think a lot of environmentalist-minded people would take issue with the idea of perspex being a greener material to build guitars with than timber...

BTW, again: what brings a non-musician to a specialist dive like the Strat Forum? Or was it just for the answer to this question?

A bit later on:

Duh! (Sound of palm slapping on forehead.) It's a Charvel guitar.

Find out more at:

...Duh!...
