Hello overyone,

I recently purchased a new american standard strat and I absolutely love it (coming from les pauls). While cleaning it today, I discovered "cracks" on the fretboard, however I am not sure if it only affects the finish or the wood? Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Tom, welcome to the forums.

It was hard for me to tell from the pics so I'm gonna take a wild leap of logic and GUESS that it's in the finish.

If it was the wood that would be really unusual.

Why don't you take (or ship) it back to the seller? If it's a matter of an online seller, you can take it to a guitar tech and get an opinion first.

Shoot, NEW means MINT!

That's my Sunday am 2 cents,

- Dan

Looks like finishing faults.
Complain and take/send it back.

@stratmangler & danagos: thanks for your feedback. The thing is, I am so happy with the guitar, it sounds great, feels great and play great - I didn't play any other guitar for the last month... :)

I am afraid of exchanging it as I feel there is no perfect guitar (based on replacement with Epiphone and Gibson) - if it is just cosmetically I will probably live with it, I anyway do not want it to look brand for long.

Thanks for the input

Doesn't look to be anything more than a minor cosmetic flaw.

If you can't feel it when you play, don't obsess over it, just play it.

After a couple years of normal use, these won't even be noticable.

cheers!

I can't tell if those are scratches or cracks.

They don't seem like cracks to me since they go against the grain of the wood. I have a couple of guitars that have small cracks going down the fretboard (rosewood) and I take that as being normal, esp. if the board hasn't been oiled on a regular basis over the years.

It's checking ,my maple board is absolutely covered with hairline cracks in the finish
No harm at all
