Question regarding the 2 models.
I've been playing only 2 years and with a different brand of guitar I quite like. Always wanted to get a Strat and being a lefty, only recently was able to pick up a half dozen in a store (thank you Houston) to actually play. I was floored when I realized they didn't feel right (the neck that is) as I played them and I played them for hours.
The good news was that I also played a half dozen Tele's for the first time and I was blown away with how good they felt from top to bottom.
Both were American Standard and so it wasn't a case of one being inferior structurally, so my question is, what the heck is so different about the neck where the Strat to me was learning all over again, and the Tele felt even better than my LP?
Thanks
Jim

I think that our overall impression of how a guitar feels, transcends to our left hand, or in your case your right hand. What I mean is, if your strumming hand is sitting comfortably, it will pick more accurately and your playing hand will move more confidently. Even the weight and size of the body will inspire your playing.
I have to admit, it took me a while to get my strumming hand to feel comfortable with my Strat. Different saddles will feel better than others to me.
On the other hand, I've always said, there's something about a Tele. I can't necessarily say what it is I like, but they always seem nice to play.

Indeed took me a while to get used to a strat because I only had telecasters and was used to the 'sharp' edge of the body under my strumming arm. Playing a strat with the forearm cut meant to feel comfortable on it my arm position changed by the tiniest amount.

All about feel I suppose. At the price I'm not likely to buy one and try to get used to it, but I'll definitely purchase the Tele...in time.
At least now I can move on and not be obsessed with the want of the Strat.
Thanks for the feedback.

As others have mentioned the Stratocaster feel is different due the the cut of the body, the floating tremelo, and the position of the bridge in relation to the pickups, pots, and neck. You cannot instinctfully rest your picking hand where you think it should rest. It requires some getting used to. The Telecaster is much more comfortable to play. It's generally lighter than a Strat or LP. The nut width on a Tele is narrower than an LP which is more comfortable for smaller hands and the longer scale combined with lighter strings gives you more room to maneuver between the frets. I'm still a Strat guy but I love me a Tele too.

Hi LFTHand, you may also find that tastes change over time, both in the style of music which you enjoy playing as well as what features you prefer in a guitar. It took me more than a few years to say definitively which guitar fit me best. You might even pick up a Les Paul one day, who knows? It's all part of the great journey that is playing guitar. May your tele serve you well when you should decide to pick one up. 8)

I agree on the evolving preference thing for sure. As a lefty I won't have quite the opportunity to pick up more than a small handful of guitars to try at any given store (with the store making the decision on what that would be of course).
For now I see myself getting the Tele and dropping into the left handed store in Houston during business trips for future ideas.
By the way Les Paul is my current guitar and I like it a lot, it's just the Telecaster felt like a dream when I played it.
