I have a question about electric guitar setup. When it comes to intonating, I always set it with my guitar in the upright playing position, but with bridge gap, truss rod, action, and pickup height, I've always set these with the guitar lying flat on a table top with nothing under the neck. My question is, should I be checking these four in the upright position as well?

Just wondering how you guys go about these settings, and what is the best/proper way, lying flat, or in the upright playing position?

Thanks in advance, G.

I don't see that it matters. Gravity exerts very little influence in this particular situation.

Intonation adjustments are very fine and gravity can upset things enough to throw those a tiny hair off (if you're using a strobe tuner).

But that's a couple thousandths of an inch -- an order of magnitude smaller than a feeler gauge, a couple orders of magnitude smaller than ruler. For action, bridge gap, pickup heights I do the measurements/adjustments however it's easiest.

OK, I didn't see how there could be much difference, I did a test on the two scenarios and as it turns out, there's little to no difference at all either way, so I'll stick to the way that I've always done it.

Thanks guys for your replies, very much appreciated, G.
