Saw this episode last night-a repeat I'm sure. Anyway Vic comes in to sell his '61 Strat. First of all, they don't even know who he is. They get this Jessie guy from Cowtown Guitars to come down and verify things. Vic wants $75,000 for the guitar. Non original case, replaced bridge pickup, and from the shots I saw, the headstock is beat and the Fender sticker is half gone. $75,000? Really? That much prominance because of who played it on a jillion records? The Strat, Jessie said on it's own should fetch $30,000. Things are really getting out of hand. BTW, the shop "bought" it for $60,000.

I saw that and was a bit shocked at what they payed for it. Non original parts and all. I understand it has some history , but still, it wasnt like it was hank marvins strat.

There was another episode where a guy came in to sell his '60 Gibson Les Paul. He said he was the touring backup guitarist for Triumph (interesting as I never knew Rik Emmett to use a second git player live ...). Being a 1960 model the dude was expecting a king's ransom, but the guitar was diagnosed to actually be a '73 Les Paul. The dude was pissed because it meant that the guy who sold it to him way back in the late '70s lied to him about it being a 1960.

That should've been a no-brainer. I could've ID'ed that guitar in about ten seconds.

Indeed.

"Herbal analgesics" tend to have that judgment-fogging effect on the human intellect.

I believe that the expert guy said it was closer to 75k in price not 30 because of all the other stuff going on with the guitar.
That's why the pawn guys bought it for 60k (think they started at 40)

I'll have to rewatch that one again (I usually do re-watch their guitar ones over)
