Hi there to everyone,

I'm a big strat fan and own a few, my two main workhorse strats are a 2007 Eric Johnson that I keep heavy gauge strings on for a thicker blues tone, and a 1991 fender strat plus that I was lucky enough to get from the former touring guitarist of Chris De Burgh (lady in red). I've been using the strat plus for years but have been frustrated by the wlkonson srting thru nut (the model before the roller nut option). I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good way to replace this with a bone nut or the newer wilkonson ( the older nut makes it next to impossible to use anything but extra-light gauge strings ).
Any advice out there????

Thanks

You ain't going to be putting a normal nut in there, I'm afraid. But it is possible to upgrade to a more recent Wilkinson, or to Fender's LSR roller nut.

Now, there was a thread on this just the other day. Where is it? ... Ah, yes, got it. Try this:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... php?t=9152

Be sure to follow that link he gives. That page shows you how to do it, and the parts you need to order.

Good luck - C

Thanks for that, looks like a manageable procedure, however after removing the Wilkinson nut and locking tuners on my strat plus, I've found a small crack in the headstock - leading me to decide on replacing the neck altogether - at least now I'll be able to have a proper nut there.
Thanks again for the link

Great. Hang onto that old neck, though. If you ever come to sell, a purchaser my prefer the original. Cracks are usually repairable, and the Strat Plus had some things going for it...

Give me a shout in e-mail:

I have one of the LSR nuts still in the package. I bought it when a local store sold off their Fender inventory. Also I bought a FENDER Custom Shop 4 guitar diamond shaped/lighted/hanging display (sorry, it's not going ANYWHERE).
