Hi,
I recently got a wired pick guard from the original, genuine sixties Strat. My friend decided to replace the pickups in his 60s start with Vintage noiseless pups, so I jumped at the opportunity to buy the original ones. Anyway, I would like to build a guitar around this pick guard, and I have contemplated buying an Am Standard Strat and replacing its electronics with these, but then I saw that Fender have started to sell necks and bodies only, and that is exactly what I need. So, are these necks and bodies the same as the ones found on American Standard guitars or are they just generic necks and bodies? Are the specs on the necks identical to the necks of Am Standards, hand rolled edges etc. Thank you in advance!

Your friend is crazy to replace original '60 pu by noiseless and to sell / give to you all the electronics . He is a very very good friend . :D

IMO , cheaper to buy a complete American Standard than a Fender neck + body + hardware +.....

But is is a nice project to build a complete new guitar if you know how .

IMO they are standard,

I bought the pups from him. I couldn't understand why he would replace these with vintage noiseless, but than again he did once almost paint that very guitar with can spray, I persuaded him to leave it as it is. :) He is adamant that if vintage noiseless are good enough for Clapton, they are good enough for him... Thanks for the reply! I would love to build the guitar, I've been in love with the idea for years now. Like my own Blackie.

those pick ups could be quite valuable, especially early 60s, and it might be an idea to speak with a known vintage dealer ( Gruhn or Elderly or ?) and find out the true worth of them, and the specifics of what you have, and ask them for advice, then weigh all your options in combination with with what you learn here -cheers and good luck j

You should be able to sell those pickups and the value would more than cover building a new Complete Stratocaster with all Fender parts, neck and body....

Tell your friend that he threw away Thousands of dollars by destroying that 60's guitar..
It's one thing for many of us for having done that back in the early 70's when today's vintage guitars couldn't be given away, but today, knowing their intrinsic value it is really unconscionable.....

Naah, he doesn't care about money or value to tell you the truth, he doesn't care about the history of the instrument, he only cares about the music that comes out of it. He always says "I'm a musician not a f***ing museum! :) He wanted to exchange these with some guy for vintage noiseless pups but I offered to buy him the entire prewired pick guard from an Eric Clapton signature Strat and that's how I ended up with these. I figured, if someone was going to get them cheap, then it better be me. I don't plan on selling them, no matter how much they are worth. I wanna keep them forever, and piece by piece I wanna build my guitar number 1 around them. Interestingly the pups and pick guard are currently residing in a Squier Affinity series Strat, until I find a better home for them. Must be one of the most desirable Affinity Squiers in the world at the moment! :)

Call me skeptical, but I need to see pictures of a real "60s" Strat, or even the pickups. Otherwise, I don't believe it.

Someone just might be retarded, or FOS, or both.

There are lots of boutique pickups that come so close to the sound of vintage originals that no one could tell the difference (except maybe for Eric Johnson).

The main reason that old pickups are worth so much is because that's how much they increase the value of an old guitar when restoring a guitar that was modified back in the day.

A vintage '60s Strat that had Dimarzio SDS-1's or Duncan SSL-1's and a chrome pickguard put on it back in the '70s (yes, people actually used to do that, and often gave away or trashed those "inferior" CBS pickups) deserves to have those vintage '60s pickups. More so than a partsocaster deserves them, even a really nice partsocaster.

Just my not so humble opinion of course, and if someone gave me a loaded '60s pickguard for virtually nothing and I wasn't as broke as I currently am I might keep them too.

Regarding the silly things people used to do to vintage guitars back when they were just (relatively) cheap used guitars, back in '74 I was $100 short of being able to buy a '59 Strat. In a way I've always regretted it, but in another way I'm happy it worked out that way. I'm pretty sure I would have ended up putting hot pickups, Schallers, a brass nut on it, maybe even routed it for a bridge humbucker and a freakin' Floyd Rose.
