All the new AV series cases are smaller, as the originals were, Fender talks about even going over the cases when they revised the new series in one of the videos, the 60th 54' has a nice center pocket interior as a 54' would, my AV 56' has the same case but with a side pocket. The salesman at the store I tried them at really liked that center pocket case.

My Gilmour has a center pocket case as well. Interesting that I would not expect any vintage guitars after '54/55 [where they started with the 'violin' type ] being supplied with a center pocket case. That's a relatively new design.

Was that song released the year after N2 O came into widespread use?

The use of nitrous oxide as an anesthetic gas dates back to the mid 19th century and was first applied clinically by a dentist of that time. Ether came into use later and was demonstrated for surgery by a physician of that time. There's always been an on-going dispute as to who was 'the father of anesthesia'. I always thought it was a guy I used to know in my 'yute', who skipped town after he learned his girlfriend was pregnant. Always thought it was kind of a dumb name for a little girl but...different strokes, I guess.

The center pocket tweed case came in late '54 till '55. The side pocket started already in late '55.

My Gilmour center pocket opens left to right. The '54, the other way.

Hey guys, just got my 1954 Am. Vintage strat..not one of the first 54 though..in any case, I was just browsing around to find out exactly which "number" in the production run was mine made... serial number is V1425168..So, after reading around, the V stands for Vintage, 14 is the year in which it was made, 2014...but I have no idea what the 25 is for, and I am guessing that my guitar is number 168 on the production run...
Hmm..is this correct? What does the 25 stand for then) :D thanks..! gonna play now..hehehe

I suppose you're wondering if your guitar was #168 manufactured on 2/5/14. As far as we could tell, for these kinds of production runs, there's generally no rhyme or reason. The factory generates a slew of neck plates and, dumping them into a bin, which ever one is picked is the one you get. You can actually see that happen on one of the Custom Shop videos. I'd bet that, for my guitar, they pulled 54 neck plates randomly, cut the special pattern and voila! I remember when the Gilmour guitar was released, we tried to correllate neck plate numbers with dates of manufacture. There was none.

Hi all,

I've arrived late to this topic, but read it a lot over the past week.

Just pulled the trigger on a "1st 54" - near new condition. Looking forward to receiving it later in the week. Serial number is V1319090 which puts it right amongst some of the others listed here.

Cheers,
John.
