Hello. New here but old when it comes to strats :)

Anyway.. I just purchased a Deluxe Fat Strat and was looking at the wiring diagram, specifically the pickup switching.

http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/ ... 00CPg4.pdf

Positions 3 and 4 appear to be exactly the same (middle pickup only). Is that by design or is this a misprint? Also, it appears that the only positions in which you'd have more than one pickup on is position 2. I'd prefer to have the humbucker AND the mid pickup on at the same time but thats just a personal thing.

Any insights from you Fat Strat owners would be appreciated.

Thanks!

That's strange. Usually in that position you would have the middle and neck pickups together.

I've got an American Series Fat Strat and that position is neck-and-middle, just as you'd expect. I feel sure that's just a misprint.

These sheets have to be taken with a degree of reservation, in my experience.

Maybe someone should notify Fender of the error.

Thanks for your replies! I did email Fender Consumer Relations about the manual so we'll see what comes of that. Since I don't physically have the guitar yet (UPS, tomorrow) I can't verify the info. We'll see what happens.

Hey, let us know when the guitar arrives, will ya? We want to know it functions right, whatever the diagram says.

While we're about it, do people have feelings on the correct order of numbering the positions on a five-way selector switch? For instance, on the diagram cited above, position five is the neck pickup. On the diagram for my Strat five is the bridge.

Always leads to some confusion in conversation. :?

Here was the reply (it came pretty quickly yesterday):

Hello,

Thanks for writing in. That pdf document appears to be a misprint. Here is how it should operate:

5-Position Blade, Special Switching:

Position 1. Full Bridge Humbucking Pickup (Lead Tone Control)

Position 2. Front Coil of Bridge Pickup and Middle Pickup (Rhythm Tone Control)

Position 3. Middle Pickup (Rhythm Tone Control)

Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickups (Rhythm Tone Control)

Position 5. Neck Pickup (Rhythm Tone Control)

We hope this will help you out.

Best Regards,
Jeff
