Problem when you fret strings or open ;

Fret strings ; Check pickups height / string action , intonation . Need news strings ?

Open Strings ; same as before + check nut slot

A good guitar tune up will solve the problem

Try changing the guitar strings.

Sorry I didn't get back with outcome. Changed strings, worked on nut, and string height.
I had some emergency surgeries done and a very long recovery. I just picked guitars back up again.
Thanks for your help,
JM

Yes it did and finally starting to play again, almost. I am re- stringing and setting the guitar up. I just got lucky with a non-touched, never played, 1997 American Roadhouse Strat. It was owned by distant family member who collects (hoards) things. He is doing a Wife ordered clean out with the auctioning and selling of everything. He knew I collected and played guitar and gave me a deal I couldn't pass up. I am slowly getting the guitar into playing shape.
Thanks for Reply.
JM
