Two things. First, the #0100 looks like it has the common affliction of guitars of that age, a low E string that falls off the fingerboard above the 12th fret.

Without the Hendrix or Clapton provenance, I doubt Allen/EMP would be interested.

It's sold and someone got a really good looking early production Strat.

I'm not so sure they got a really good price, ($250,000.00) with OHSC, but I suppose they can afford it.

It IS pretty authentic looking!

Seems to me that the most news-worthy thing about these events are the prices....Like the Andy Warhol painting which sold for 43 million dollars.

$43,000,000.00 for a Warhol is ridiculous, you can't even play "Malaguena" on it!

What's the bet it's gone to some 'investor' who has a collection of guitars but barely knows his basic chords or basic pentatonic scale lol

Those first Strats were supposed to have a "one tone" sunburst finish, that is, they didn't shoot any yellow, they left the center wood uncolored, they just shot the dark around the edges and then the clear coat.

I can't tell if that guitar's finish is like that. What do y'all think?

I hope the buyer takes Gruhn's advice, he encouraged the buyer to contact the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix about displaying it. I for one think that's a great idea, I have been to that museum a few times and it is amazing, they have John Lennon,s piano, Keith Moon,s Drum set and more

Yeah, because we are seeing the different colors of the pieces of the body.
It's not the most beautiful representative of that era.

The chatter in the 'comments section' identifies the purchaser as Paul Allen. Has that been confirmed....anyone??

I cannot confirm Paul Allen as the purchaser, but I will deny it was either me or you!

That narrows it down a little bit. Come to think of it, I can't deny that it was you, can I ZZDoc?

This might just be a clever ruse to throw us off the trail. 8)

Anyway, Mr. Allen is a likely suspect, but that seemed like pure speculation.

In the article it states that the buyer wants to remain anonymous. So we will never know. If it was Allen that to me somewhat contradicts that it was Allen. He doesn't usually remain anonymous but usually quite the contrary.

It wasn't me either. I offered Gruhn $200,000 but he turned down my offer.

Allen being one of the usual suspects, I'll be out in Seattle on 4/22. If get a shot at visiting the EMP again, I'll look for it. Sadly, when I last visited there, the Brownie had been relegated from a respectable display case with all kinds of 'candy' reminiscent of D&TD, to a lowly glass box in the big guitar room. Uffff!!!!
