I've got a genuine Fender pickup that has a red and a yellow wire. Anyone know what it is and also which wire is ground? thanks

Hi schmeoud,

A picture of the back of the pup might help.

Which is ground depends on what the other pickups are (and their magnetic polarity).

Typically it is the wire soldered to the left eyelet.

Ok, I'll look for the orientation of the ground lead relative to the other pups. I've not seen one with this wire colorcoding and was also curious regarding what it came off of. It's going in with a couple Tex Mex's. Right now it sounds thin when combined in position 2 or 4 so I think it's backwards. SOunds strong on its own, but doesnt have the proper quack in 2 or 4. Cant find anything on the net about this pup.

It sounds thin probably due to it being much weaker than Texas Specials.....
This is something that many people don't consider when combining pups...
Tex. Spex. are 6.2, 6.5 and 6.7k in ohms, if you are combining the two higher values with a pup that is much weaker you will have a serious tone discrepancy...
Also Texas Specials are designed to be installed as a set as they are wired up RW/RP.

All that will make a difference.....

FYI: It's Tex Mex not Texas specials. it's 6.4 ohms... should be right in there. Nice and loud when by itself, just out of phase with the others.
