EMG pots do not look any pot I know and see like CTS , Alpha, Bourns .

Hi statele52: as I mentioned, my EMG set came with Alpha mini-pots. So at least sometimes that is what EMG use. Whether that's what Seanboy has or not, we don't yet know.

Sorry I did not read you talk about mini pots ;

Ceri write ;

" An EMG-DG harness I once bought definitely did have Alpha pots. Nuttin' wrong with 'em."

Alpha mini pot use 1/4 " shaft , good for American made strat knob IMO .

CTS knurl on left, Alpha knurl on right:

Instead of reaming out and heating the knob to force fit it onto a pot that it was not meant to fit, the OP should just buy the correct sized knob. :idea: They are cheap and readily available.

We still dont know thats the issue i mentioned the metric and american pots question to him earlier.
I have had many pot shafts that were just tight or loose.

Those look like Alpha pots to me.

But it doesn't matter. The difference is a hundredth of a millimetre or a thousandth of an inch.

Presuming Seanboy is switching from a CTS knurled pot to an Alpha knurled pot (as his first post suggests). The ones in the photo Bill posted are the same as came with my set of EMGs: I bet that's also what Seanboy has. So then the only significant difference is the small grooves the original pot will have carved into the knob's hole. That's what's making it seem like they don't fit.

The direct answer to the original question is: press the knobs onto the new pot, which will make new grooves inside them to grip the new pot shaft. If that ends up leaving them a bit loose, buy some new knobs, of exactly the same design and spec.

Cheers - C

Just buy the correct knobs that fit the pots and quit screwing around. :roll:

Do you even know what the right knobs would be without seeing what he has? No. Why do I feel a sense of deja vu here?

Could you just heat a smaller hammer? :lol:
My collection of unused knobs attest to the fact that when you are not in the know, it's easy to buy the wrong thing.

And why do I feel that you didn't even bother to look at the link I posted showing what the OP said he had? How hard is it to look at the knurl on the pots and compare them to whats in the knobs? If you can't figure out what the correct knob is from that, well, that's your problem. It ain't rocket science.

Knobs are inexpensive. Buy the ones that fit. There's my two cents. :)
