Speaking of Gotoh's, I had retrofitted Gotoh's mini delta's 410 tuners on both of my L'arrivee acoustics, 21 to 1 ratio.. Those I would consider for another build as they are also offered as inline...

Here's one on Ebay, looks in good shape. Doesn't mention if it's a soft V, but I'm assuming it is.

Might be priced a little high. I bought one a few years ago and think I paid under $200 for it.

IMHO $67.5K is great expectation for the current vintage used market. Further more, that kind of money should be bringing an NOS quality piece, not one that's been played and waylaid. Personally, I rather buy a new Corvette and pamper it for 50 years.

pffft, that guitar is FILTHY! Needs a good bath and some fresh paint. The seller describes as: “Used, Normal light play wear” HA! In one of the pictures I can see actual grooves in the neck from the 1st to 4th strings! I should take a hammer and chisel to my favorite Strat and create greater value for it!!!

I Googled Mary Kaye Stratocaster Images and that photo i uploaded was the best for me...
I have only seen one MK in a shop and it was gone when I returned to really check it out...
It's definitely not a blueish tint, more of an eggshell opaque...

The MK's were reputed to have a slight pinkish hue until the white and/or clear started to age and yellow. I would guess it was from the colour of the wood showing through.

Well for 67,000 I am buying an Audi RS4 Avant....
Really that price is extremely hopeful, or completely unrealistic...

Interesting that the E, A and G strings are flat wounds... :?:

My Thoughts Exactly! I am currently working on year Nine with a Lemans Blue 2005 Corvette...And it is clean enough to win "Best of Show 1st Place" at a Corvette only show!

There's been a manic interest in vintage guitars which, I suspect, has fomented a 'flip it' mentality, as with the housing industry in the US in recent past. That may have slowed, and the last purchaser will be stuck with the goods. As far as the strings....my bandmate and I played flats back in the day until we became a tad more sophisticated. Whom ever used this guitar may have sought the softer, jazz tones that flats yield.

I love the white blonde finish. It was quite variable, however. Some showed the grain underneath, some were nearly solid white (like Hendrix' Woodstock Strat according to ME).

The butterscotch blonde on the Tele was the same way.

I've certainly got the wear & tear and you've got a good outlook on life.

And that rant was more than a bit tongue-in-cheek.

But, that Mary Kaye listed for $67k was pretty ratty!

All this is just treading water while I wait for developments in your build. No rush, good things take time! :)

Ha.. Ha... Thanks... Life is good, when i look around I have no justification to moan and complain. There are challenges but we all have them in various degree's....
Anyway.... Off track here on the philosophical tangent....

 " Good things take Time " ... Hmmm... Line Quote from Wall Street ( The film ).

So On this project, I'm going to post a parts and cost list, I need to do a bit of research first so i'll return... Stay Tuned...

IMHO....this is the way to go with that body pattern you posted.

Thanks Doc... That is my preferred choice also but thought I would throw it out there...
Now the other thought is would it still be a Mary Kaye clone if the pick guard was deleted and it was all back routed.... :?: :?: :?
I just dislike the pick guard when a body is nicely grained .... I feel it hides the wood and Yes... a pick guard can be nice but..... A slight deviation is also fun... 8)

Since it a custom built guitar, why not consider a clear pick guard? Just a thought.

I had a clear pick guard on a past project and it always bugged me that I could see the rout and innards thru the clear plexi. The guitar was white and I ended up painting the guard.

IMHO.... If one is going to do a custom body with the emphasis on grain pattern showing thru, then rear-rout is really the only option... In this instance I don't have a 1-7/8" or 2" body where I could slice off the top and transform that into the pick guard with the grain exactly matching the body... So a rear-rout is the best solution.

There are quite a few examples of rear routed Stratocasters in the Custom Shop Book and I think those are the best,... It's not a difficult process but the visual effect brings a Stratocaster to an entirely higher plane of visual candy.....

I think I may have an old pic on P-bucket.... :?:

Not the same as our topic MK, but there's the visual effect of no pickguard.....
On another build, my Figured Maple Strat will resemble this but with SSS...
