I'm trying to decide which electric guitar to get. I'm deciding between the Fender Blacktop Stratocaster and Ibanze RG350DXZ. I'm mainly playing Hard Rock and little heavy metal. Is the Ibanze RG350DXZ only for heavy metal or can you also play hard rock too?

No guitar is only for one thing. One of my best blues guitars is a PRS Paul Allender, and I play medieval music on my Gibson SG.
It's Ibanez, by the way.
Try them out and find out what you like the feel of the best. The sound can be changed by controls, stomp boxes and amps, and if nothing else helps, changing the pickups, but the feel you get for the guitar can't.

You need to figure out if you NEED a locking nut and Floyd Rose style trem... if so, then the decision is made for you!

Both would work out great. If I remember correctly that Paul Gilbert's guitar was based on the RG, or he used one before Ibanez made him a signature model. So if you're wondering if the RG does rock... well, yeah it does it REAL well :P. And Fender is a Fender, it does everything real well.

I take it you're looking at the Floyd Rose version of the Blacktop, so trems and locking nuts are similar. The only difference is in pickup selection: RG having the HSH vs the Blacktop HH. The HH with the five way gives you bridge full, front single back single, front full back full, front single and front full combo. So you can get that tele front and back single sound (good for funky stuff and country rock) and you can get that single coil front pickup.

RG five way gives you the Full bridge, Single bridge Single Middle, Single Middle, Single Middle Single Front, Full Front pickup combo. So you're gonna get those straty quacky tones with the 2 and 4 position (that you can't get on the strat you chose :p). Great for Blues (john mayer uses this position alot), great for glassy cleans with chorus for 80s hair metal, also great positions for R&B cleans with compression (think MJ clean like Billy Jean, luther vandros).

Both very versatile guitars, both do rock and metal great out of the box, because lets face it, Whammy + bridge humbucker is what you're after here. Its just which options you want after that (personally the front single coil option on the Fender is the must for me for bluesy songs).

arth1 is right in getting a feel for each of them. but keep in mind about what else you might wanna use it for :) enjoy and let us know what you end up going with (PICS, we need PICS :p).
