Hi

I have a 2004 American Deluxe Strat and I've lost my pop in Tremolo arm. I'm not able to find the replacement part.

I purchased this Snap-in tremolo arm:

http://www.fender.com/guitar-bass-parts/tremolo-arms/ultradeluxe-stratocaster-snap-in-tremolo-arm-chrome/

but it does not pop in and stay where I leave it (like the originial). It's very loose.

Any ideas where I can get the correct arm?

Thanks

Check the hole where the arm pops in. There should be a spring in it. If it's not in there, good chance that's your problem.

I believe the tension on the pop-in arm for an Am Deluxe can be adjusted by a set screw on the trem block.. no spring required..

Correct there are two grub screws for tension and fit and also a small spring clip.
The clip spreads slightly when the bar is inserted. Note on the bottom of the pop in bar ...it is shaped ...the clip fits around the indentation to hold it in and allows for "pop ability"
The grub screws tighten around a plastic sheath.
If you have purchased the correct bar then either the screws need adjusting or the sheath or clip is broken.
There is no spring as such on the pop in deluxe bridge.
The standard bridge does have a spring to provide tension. :D

Actually I bet I know the deal...

The newer Deluxe pop in is smaller in diameter than the older ones.

Try one of these

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Fender- ... 564a620cc5

They have the hex for the locking tremolo but also serve as a great truss adjuster and are the right diamter

I ran into this same issue building a Deluxe tremolo out of a 2006 American Standard.
Changing blocks and bridge plates I ran into problems like this.
What I ended up doing was buying a new plastic sleeve insert and reaming it closer.
A real pain actually

Great info. I don't use the trem bar so I wrongly assumed my deluxe was the same as my American standard.

Thanks all for the replies. I think donnycraven is right. The newer models must have smaller diameters because on my 2004 Strat it feels like I've purchased the wrong arm (even though its a deluxe pop in). Don't think Fender sell the old ones anymore. What a pain.

Maybe I should try wrapping a lot of Teflon tape round it or something to make the arm thicker

Hey Donny I may be wrong but the link you provided refers to a part number for the deluxe locking tremelo.
They have been around for a while so that is possible that the OP does have a locking trem.
I do not think they have changed the diameter though so if it is a normal deluxe bridge the original part should fit.
How about some pics?

Yep deluxe locking!
I'd like the original poster to maybe post some pics of the back of the bridge block.
The deluxe has bright chrome saddles.
Another question to ask has the arm been fully driven home.
There should be a definite click when it hits home as described.
:D

Hi

I have purchased both kind of tremolo arms. They are both very loose and don't pop in

These are what I have:
