Hello! Newbie here and just wondering:

I have a Fender Stratocaster w/ maple fingerboard and SSS configuration right now. Thinking about putting a JB or Super D in the bridge, and i was wondering: is it routed for that already?

Thank you to all responses i appreciate your time!!! :D

There's an astoundingly simple way to figure that out.

Pull the guard.

Elementary!

Most Strats are routed for a S/S/H pickup configuration with the exception of the MIA vintage re-issues, the MIM Classic Series, and *certain* artist signature models based on those two platforms -- all of which are designed and built for a S/S/S pickup array.

Oh come on, Username0, don't be so lazy.
If you seriously plan to mod the guitar, try to find the passion to unscrew the pickguard and see what's underneath.

Cheeses, the simplicity of internet...

Yes its routed for humbuckers if it is what you showed me and the best pickguard to use for it is a Fender Lonestar pickguard. A Dimarzio f spaced or a Seymour Duncan works great. A trembucker requires some cutting on pickguard though as its physically wider by almost an 1/8 inch.

Most modern USA and Mexican Fenders have 1, 2, or 3 of those holes depending on model and country of origin. They're locating/registration/reference holes for the CNC machines and jigs used when manufacturing the bodies (they keep the body in place while cutting/shaping/drilling it). Most modern Fenders also have one of those holes in the neck pocket.

Vintage Reissues don't have them, most Japanese Fenders don't have them, and there may be other exceptions, but if you look at Fender bodies for sale on eBay you'll see the holes are very common.

Check out Fender's replacement bodies: http://www.fender.com/search-results/?q=replacement+body&page=5 The ones on this page all have one body hole and one neck pocket hole, but as I said 2 and 3 body holes are common too.

wow, It's strange that I have never noticed those holes before  My interest in Fender guitars began 10 months ago, and I am trying to learn as much as I can before I decide to buy my first stratocaster... more reading required!!!

Thanks!
