Hi !

I'm searching for my first Strat but I'm totally LOST ! :|

I'm a lot into '50's guitars, I own a LP '56 and Tele '58 (Both RI of course) but it seems I like rosewood more on a Strats so as rosewood came around '59 this won't be a '50s this time (My Tele is maple already).

I saw the wonderful sonic blue Classic Player 60's, I would prefer a smaller radius but 12" is fine too… (Once relic'd it looks awesome !)
Maybe the pickups were maybe a little bit too thin and bright, but maybe it was because of the amp. What do you think ? Is there fatter, more mid-rangey Strat pickups out there ?
Is it vintage sounding or more modern ?

The sound I'm searching for is somewhere around the White Stripes, Black Keys and all that vintage/dirty sounding Rock.

Do you think this one would fit ?
Or I was wondering about doing a Warmoth one ?
I can add a few extra hundreds to the price of the CP 60 if there's something more interesting !

Any other suggestion ?

Thank you very much :D

I like the CP 60s strat. You could change the pu,s to fat 50s. The CS 69s that come with the CP 60 I don't like much either. Or find a am strat with the fat 50s and it might be closer to what you want.

The CS 69 pickups are relatively tame compared to Texas Special's, Tex-Mex's, Fat '50s, and 57/62's. If you want a tighter fretboard radius, start with a MIM Classic Series Strat -- all three eras feature the vintage-spec frets mounted to a 7.25" board. Add the pickups of your choice, upgrade the trem block to solid steel, and you'll have a "keeper" with professional appointments throughout.

Hey guys ! Thank you very much for your answers ! :D

You know, that's pretty stupid but I have to buy it with my girlfriend, so it has to be Sonic Blue or no Strat at all !

If I had the choice I would go for the AVRI '59 but too much expensive… From what I heard over the web and know about the AVRI series, it sounds much fatter, dirtier, more organic, more of that Blues mojo. (You know, all that Hendrix sound and all…Or John Mayer, his live distortion sound is great too)

And this is what I'd like to approach !

Maybe the CP60 can do it (I said "approach"), as I don't really know Strats I'm not sure.

I'll go do a few more tries tomorrow, I think they have some Classic Series in stock, I'm gonna try them too, not sure about the AM Strat though… We'll see !
If there's great stuff we'll try to talk about the color.

Thanks again, and if you have any more advices, you're welcome ! :D

The Classic Series '50s Strat is available in Daphne Blue, a close relative of your girlfriend's preferred Sonic Blue......

A MIM Black Classic 50's has been my main axe for over a decade, wonderful instrument and this morning I just got an American Standard with the Fat 50's pick ups....if you were to drop those into to a Classic you would have all the '50's you could ever want trust me.
Especially if your into that Buddy Holly vibe.

Good luck! Asking a question like that around here is asking us who you should marry? Boy, are you going to get a slew of opinions. The Fender line is so varied, and we all have our favorites and are able to squeeze out the tone we need. Your amp and signal chain will also be an important part of what you seek. Though we all subscribe to the philosophy that 'one can't only one guitar' I suppose looking seriously at an American Standard might be the place to begin. As you notice, we're a mod happy bunch as well, to say the least. But it's hard to do something like that with one's wife, unless you know a really great plastic surgeon.

I wasn't kidding with respect to the replies you could expect. We often get down and dirty over some posts, no malice aforethought though. People are usual concerned for the good and welfare of our members. My one serious thought about your situation is as follows: If the choice of finish isn't a compromise because both of you are going to play this instrument then "Run!!"
