Not that I want to sound contradictory particularly in light of comments made by respected members of the forum ( including Rob "the man") but looking around the net there is evidence this series may well have had 22 frets and a skunk stripe.
IMHO it could well be legit maybe the guy got his dates wrong and it is from 2006 not 1986.
If it was 86 then yeah I would expect it to reflect true vintage.
Don't forget records are not always 100% accurate and it is an FSR so any vintage real expectations could go out the window.
I had a nice vintage deluxe player from the 2005 it had SCNs traditional gold hardware and S1 switching.
Wish I had never sold it and tried to buy it back but the guy wouldn't budge! :D

Basically, what you're claiming is a one-off...

I'd side with the consensus...

cheers!

Not one-off, but a
Limited Edition Deluxe Vintage Player '62 Stratocaster
I do believe. 22 frets, V-serial number, ....

Give that man a cigar.

+1

Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

Now I am not saying definitely just looking at possibilities. Only a thorough inspection would possibly reveal the nature of the guitar originally pictured :D

Orvilleowner sir I bow to your graciousnes! :D

The specs that were listed by Rob were 21 frets, and the OP pics show 22 frets? And there were no 62 RI with the skunk stripe neck, correct?

Partscaster, with maybe even a fake neck plate?

Nope; I agree with Jimmyjames and orvilleowner - it is the 2006 FSR that Rob posted the specs for a few days ago, but Fender's specs have a typo as these did have 22 frets. It seems like there were two colors of this with the rosewood board (the '62 FSR) and 2 colors with a maple fingerboard (a '57 FSR). I remember that Wildwood in Colorado had a bunch of these - and maybe Dave's in Wisconsin as well.

They were supposed to be a cross between the AV and the American Deluxe series.

The guitars you're talking about were called Deluxe Vintage Players - essentially American Vintage models loaded with a few deluxe appointments such as a 22-fret neck, jumbo fretwire, flat 9.5'' radius and SCN pickups with S1 switching system. Some were featured with a matching-painted headstock.

These FSRs were made in 2005 and lasted only a year.

Yes, a typo in the specs, which was mentioned in various forums back in the day.

I was wondering if I had seen it at Dave's Guitar. Lots of limited editions with "off" specs go through there. Dave's liked the thin skins a lot.

The ease of parts swaps and the multitude of variations over the years makes it hard to be sure of what you are finding in the used market.

The pics are so bad, it's hard to know what you really have, but it could be the one in this link

Here's the one I had and mentioned ... maybe the 57 certainly not the 62.
Why did I sell it?
...because I am an idiot!
Mary Kaye style love the blonde and gold.
Fender had a lot of FSR goodness going at the time what with these and the bad boy blue and none more black etc.
