doesn't look like a big issue, but if it bothers you, have a new nut cut & installed......that should "fix" it.

Just how's that going to solve the issue?

The problem lies with the string spacing at the bridge, not at the nut.

The simple answer is, there is no "easy" fix.

The more complex solution lies in swapping out the "mini bridge" for a vintage-spec unit with 2-7/32" string spacing. Which is how the Stratocaster was originally designed.

wow...i'll have to remember that string ends have nothing to do w/each other and that you can't move any string position by changing the nut.............

 right backatya !

Such a procedure will move the string position at the headstock but it will have only minimal effect over two feet away at the bridge. Try loosening the strings on your Strat a bit then lift them from their nut slots and shift them slightly. See any radical string spacing change at the bridge?

It's not a misalignment, it's deliberate. It's supposed to be that way. Think about it. Think about it some more. No, really, I mean it, think about it.

Thought about it for a couple days now ( ), still can't come up with an idea why the strings should be misaligned - for me it's been SOP to align the neck in such situations.
So, a humble request; could you open the quote a little.

P.S. & more generally:
I've never cared much about how the strings sit in relation to the polepieces, straight above or a little to the side. But I've been meticulous about the "correct" pickup height.
Wondering now, if I've just been applying the psychoacoustics, or is the magnetic field really that different above the polepieces than beside them... Not to mention staggered polepieces at all.

I have 3 Strats and all 3 have the same almost identical misalignment. The only pickup that has the magnets centered under the strings is the bridge pickup. (and that, i presume, is because of the slanted positioning which permits it to line up) Now, with that being said, I tend to agree with the majority of the posters who say it is of no consequence that the strings do not line up with the center of their respective pole pieces; however, would it really be that difficult or more expensive for Fender to make the neck and middle pickups in such a way that they would line up, if for no other reason than for asthetics? Wouldn't you want your quality instrument to reflect perfect alignment as opposed to being noticeably off center? :?: Well that's just my 2 cents.

I think what would irk me more than the strings being centered above the pole pieces, would be the varying distance of the E-strings from the edge of the fret-board.

Glad you're back in business.

It would irk me if they weren't a different distance, for multiple reasons. There's a minimum distance you can have between the bass E and A strings, without having them ring against each other when both are vibrating vigorously. On two of my guitars, I have moved the bass E saddle to the side a little to avoid just that.
And also, having some extra distance on the treble side makes pulls and pull-offs easier, while less edge on the bass side makes thumb fretting and muting more feasible.

It doesn't have to be much, but I really like to have a tiny bit more fretboard edge on the treble side. And for last two Fenders I've bought, this is the case.

As for centering over the poles, that's not strictly required. The magnetic field is like a small cloud, and there's little to no correspondence between a string and a pole. If the poles had been individually wrapped, it would have made a difference. But as it is, the poles aren't really individual, but part of a "mountain range". Your bends are going to displace the string sideways a lot more than that, and it still sounds good.
