Good day to you all fellow Samaritans.

I am looking to buy this Fender Strat guitar neck and would like some expert advice from you guys on this forum.

The neck is being sold for £165 (in the UK) including postage and packaging, and the seller has provided the following information about this item:

1. The neck is maple with rosewood fingerboard.
2. The machine heads are original and are Gotoh.
3. The stamp on the neck is KST-556HMR.
4. There is a locking nut.
5. It is a 24 fret neck.

Can anyone tell me if this is a genuine/fake Strat neck. If real/fake, is the price worth it? Thanks in advance.

Well, it's real, off a HM strat, not sure about the price though.

The US dollar equivalent is just over $275. for that neck.

See how much flexibility the seller has.

It has a fair amount of wear and dings, which should bring the price down.
On the other hand, it's not like you can call Fender and order a black headstock Strat neck either.

My take is that yes, it's overpriced. They're getting fairly rare, but rare doesn't necessarily mean desirable. But it may still be worth it if someone wants their HM Strat restored. It won't grow their hair back to 80s length, though.

That's a Japanese-made neck, right?

By Fuji Gen Gakki, yes.

You're forgetting how much extra we pay in the UK for US-made guitars. Factor in import duty, shipping costs and 20% value added tax and an $800 instrument pretty much turns into an £800 instrument by the time it arrives in a UK buyer's hands.

There was a HM Strat on my local craigslist the other day for $200. They neck look in decent shape, but the body was originally hot pink and the owner repainted it, it looked pretty bad.

The neck is genuine.
If you do buy it bear in mind that it does not fit a standard Stratocaster body.

Thank you very much gentlemen. As far as this thread goes, I've learnt that:

1. It is a genuine item made by Fuji Gen Gakki (Japanese).
2. It will not fit on a standard Stratocaster body.

I received new information from the seller that the locking nut is the original Kahler but does not have the shelf blocks and screws which are used for the locking mechanism.

So now my question is, given it's condition, how much would be a reasonable price for it should I try to negotiate with the seller from the £165 price mark?

Thanks again in advance.

I'd walk away.
Getting the bits to fit would be a difficult task to accomplish.

I have a white HM Strat with unfinished Maple neck/fingerboard - it was my main guitar for years.
This guitar shows the signs of a hard life - I was pretty heavy handed sometimes
I ultimately tired of playing on wide shallow necks - the neck of my American Deluxe is a considerably more comfortable neck to play.

One thing I did change was the bridge humbucker - mine sports a DiMarzio Fred pickup, wired for coil split.
I had to move the middle and neck pickups around to enable humbucking mode in positions 2 & 4 (with humbucker split).
Other than that it's mechanically as it came.

I'll have to drag it out from under the bed ....

I'd honestly walk away, the only real way to make this work is to build a body with a suitable neck joint. It doesn't fit anything other than a HM Strat body.

Thank you very much gentlemen for your valued advice/information. I've now decided to walk away as I've come to conclude that the build, in its entirety, is not worth the hassle and effort. There are much better and even cheaper alternatives. Have a nice day :D

In Sterling? I'd have to knock it down to the most 125.00. I would go with the areodyne neck if I wanted a black headstock and it was going on a Japanese guitar. I have one I put on an old hollow body and I love the feel and workmanship. You should be able to get a new one off of Ebay for around 165.00.
