Does anyone know when (approximately) Fender began using the nitrocellulose finish on the USA made '62 reissue guitars? Thanks!

I checked reviews at Harmony Central and the oldest one was from 2000. That one had a nitro finish.

The MIA RIs have always been billed as nitro finished since their intriduction in the early 80s. The undercoat is not nitro...but it's no big issue. [some of the original and most desirable 50s custom colours were acrylic rather than nitro ;^)]
Folks worry too much about nitro finshes in the context of solid body guitars. More important than the nature of the finish is the thickness of it.
Some folks feel the finishes on the MIA RIs are too thick. [It's probably most evident on the 52 Tele, where you can see it ].

I think the whole subject is over egged with solid guitars though. There are many factors and variables which are more important than a coat of paint ....
[ An ageing thin nitro finish is beautiful though. I'm as big a sucker for it as anybody ;^)]

Very cool. I was only wondering because the finish on mine is doing some changing. I do love the tone it has, and plan on keeping it for life...
