Hi.
Iv just been given a Fender Stratocaster Highway One by a friend to install some new pick ups in for him. The Highway One is a 2009 HSS model but he has some Custom Shop Fat 50s he would like installed to SSS format. The problem im having, is that the previous pick ups have already been removed so i have no point of reference to work with. Im not sure where i should be soldering the pick ups too, regarding which pick up selector, tone pot etc. He also wants the bridge tone control to effect the bridge pick up, middle tone for middle pick up and neck for neck. Does anybody know of any good wiring diagrams or anything that maybe of help to achieving this.
Any helps much appreciated.
Thanks.

Ask these guys.

Seymour Duncan Forum

Or .. if you don't like the idea of joining yet another forum you can search the websites of pickup makers like Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio and such.

Then there are smaller scale custom winders that are usually quite helpful. Lindy Fralin is an absolute genius with Strat pickups making some of the finest pups the world has ever seen (IMO) and he does custom wiring as well. He's a very personable guy and will talk to you on the phone himself.

Then there are the companies that sell guitar parts. Lots of those have wiring diagrams.

Then there are these guys. They don't provide much free info to lurkers but if you buy something they'll be gushing all over you with help.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The Fat 50's are used in the American Standard so you could use the same wiring as a starting point.
The pdf service diagram is

To add the separate bridge tone control there is a good article with diagrams here. It does require an additional 0.022uF capacitor.

I know how he feels, I hated that grease bucket tone circuit. I wired mine to American standard and changed the Alnico 3 rods out to Alnico 5 in the single coils kept an Atomic humbucker in this one. Wow what a great improvement!

It's weird how the greasebucket tone circuit polarizes opinion - I'm a big fan of it, but I can understand why others dislike it. :)

I did alot to my Highway 1 to make it the one of a kind Strat I love today.
Along with the mods above I mentioned, I replaced the body with an American Standard so I could use a Fender Deluxe 2 point pop in tremolo and installed locking tuners. The peghead has also been urethane clear coated to protect the logo and serial.
Its my best Strat.

This is my Highway 1 man Its actually built up pretty heavy duty.

I first replaced the body to get a urethane finish and a Fender Deluxe 2 point pop in tremolo. I wired it American Standard which was just a minor rewire with a new cap. Then i replaced the Hot Alnico 3 pickup magnet rods with Alnico 5 rods. I switched out the Atomic for a white one. Added the Deluxe Locking Tuners. Also peghead has been urethane coated front and back to cover and protect decals.
