I have a MIM Strat and the neck is straight as a board. I backed the adjustment almost all the way out and it didn't move. There's no tension on the rod, what di I have to do to get the right bow?

Tune it to pitch and wait a day or two. That neck should start to bow forward and you'll find yourself needing to tighten the truss rod adjuster to compensate.

Thanks for the help. I have it tuned and put it across the arm of my chairs using it's own weight. It's been there for over 20 hours and still straight. It plays well but just so flat that I get a lot of string buzz.

So that's nearly one day.
Have you fully loosened the truss rod?

I backed it out until there's no resistance.

I'd leave it a day or two longer and see if things move.
You could always check some measurements by following the setup guide http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... tup-guide/

Need more than no resistance , but you may have too wait few days . I see that in worse ; My 1979 Strat have the truss Bullet nut very loose since 5 years and don't move . Neck is straight straight but no buzz.

I fix guitars since many year and I never see that before . All the time it take 30 min to 1 hour to move and 1 days waiting to be sure it stop moving .

I'll back the rod out all the way and give it a couple of days.

Once in a while you'll find a guitar where the neck really won't shift, maybe it's just an exceptionally strong piece of maple, maybe it's been over-tightened in the past and developed a bit of back bow.

If it's not bowed forward sufficiently after two days tuned to pitch then check again to make sure the truss rod is fully released, tune the strings up a semitone and WAIT PATIENTLY for a day or two, it'll move eventually.

I wouldn't go rushing for that option just yet though. Give it more time at standard pitch with the rod released and use that most invaluable item in the guitar repairer's toolkit, patience.

Thank you for your help and that's good advice for everything. I have time, I have other guitars to use. BTW, nothing wrong with your English.
