Yeah... no way is GC going to do a lick of setup or work on any guitar they sell. I miss MARS!

Ok... then forget about the Takamine.

I got a $1,249.00 guitar w/case for $820.00.

Does that sound better?

:)

Frankly, I am impressed! 15-20% off is usually about as low as they will go off GCs retail price. They will always knock 10% off any purchase when you trade in something (nice of them considering the hosing they give you on trades!). But you got a seriously deep discount if the guitar wasn't already on clearance or scratch n dent! You got an Am. Std. for less than they usually sell an Am. Spl. or the new US Professional!

+1

They *might* re-string it but that's about the best one could hope for.

American Standard is by far my favorite Strat. Even over the American Deluxe.

My hands on review is very good for this guitar. This is the first American Standard that I have owned with the Fat 50s pickups, and I can say I like them even better than the Texas Specials. Fit and finish is great (as ussual with the American Standards). The setup was pretty close, and I only had to tweak it a little to get it to my liking.

Tremolo works well without throwing the guitar out of tune. I don't normaly use it, but I do expect it to work properly. I do keep the bridge floating because I think it gives it a better tone, and there may be times when I will play around with the tremolo.

Intonation seems spot on (even on the low E), and nut action is very good as well. This is my first black Strat and I have to say, I like it alot. It goes good with any color, and with the white pickguard, maple neck, and vintage pickups and knobs... it just looks great.

I play with an acoustic style and have a Fishman Loudbox Mini which has a 10 mega ohm input, so it will take any input without loosing any of the frequencies, and this guitar with these pickups sounds wonderful through it. It has build in chorus and reverb for the guitar channel and a mic channel with reverb. It also has an XLR out so I can run it into the house sound at an open mic and have full control over my sound, and it acts as my personal monitor in that situation as well.

I am thinking of getting a small tube amp as well, and I am sure it will sound great through that too.

Overall I give this guitar a 9.999...

Nothing is perfect...:)

My local GC had a Gibson Les Paul 50s Tribute (gold top w/ P90 pups) on clearance for $799 for the month of December. THEN they lowered it to $599 in January. I have not been in to verify, but I assume that it is long gone now. What a deal that was ...
