$820.00 at Guitar Center.

I went to GC to get an American Standard Strat and had a Takamine G series acoustic to use as a trade toward the price of the Strat. I bought the acoustic at that same store several months prior and they go for about $550.00. They usually give about half the going price on trade in's so I figured about @250.00 toward the price of the Strat. The guy came back and told me that after the tech checked out the Takamine he found that it would need about a hundred dollars worth of fret work so they could only give me $100.00 for it. I told him that I bought it there new and I only played it about a dozen times since i got it, and it sat in the case the rest of the time. I told him it had to be that way when I bought it then.

The Manager spoke to me in the office and said it was a common problem with this model and it was not any fault of mine. He still only gave me $120.00 for the Tak, but gave me the Strat for $820.00 out the door, so I only paid $700.00.

I think that was a very good deal. He knows I spend a lot of money there so I think he cut me a break.

Anyway... it's a black one with a maple neck, white pickguard, and vintage color pickups & knobs.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...:)

Meanwhile your Takamine went straight out onto the used guitar rack with a price tag of $289.

Well, if bcalvanese is happy with the deal, that is all that matters.

Ok... then forget about the Takamine.

I got a $1,249.00 guitar w/case for $820.00.

Does that sound better?

:)

A pretty fair bargain in my book.

[RANT ON]

Personally, I wouldn't buy so much as a pick or a set of strings from GC.

It would be my pleasure to see them slide into the Abyss.

Not only do they excaserbate the problem... they ARE the problem.

I realize that many living in other areas don't have the same choices as me, so I don't expect GC to disappear from the horizon with tomorrow's setting Sun...

But they will NEVER get a dime of my money.

The same goes for Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club, et al.

Combined, these corporations have changed the face of America... and not in a good way.

Unless of course you consider saving people pennies that they can then use to further live beyond their means and get all the trappings of the 'new' American Dream (obscene Big Screens, Personal Water Crafts, Designer Deck Furniture, etc.).

I still have a number of Ma & Pa stores at my disposal and I appreciate every one of them. So much so, that I don't at all mind paying a bit more to help keep them alive.

[RANT OFF]

cheers!

I totally agree with you I have sworn off of Guitar Center too.
I have a private owned store here Guitar Syndicate and they dont have Fender yet...
They do have all they're parts and strings straps etc.
They can get everything the Fender store has they also have line 6 etc.
I can sell guitars there I fix guitars there and I am friends with the owners on facebook.
I had a buddy in late 80s was a great guy and did me special favors at his video store.
Let me take home videos he got that were not even out yet his name was Joe, for real it was.
He spent his life savings on starting that video store "Cotton Video" had 2, one uptown and one down town. He would give you a free bag a fresh popcorn and cotton candy for the kids.
One day they built a new store across the road from him and when construction was done a Blockbuster sign went up. I wouldnt go there untill Joe finally went out of business.
I said goodbye to Joe and finally I had to go rent a movie this was like 90 or 91.
I just started buying the movies I didnt like the place, I resented what they did to Joe. When they announced they were going out of business I said out loud couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of folks.

By my math, you are into that strat for $1250: that's $550 several months that ago and $700 now.
