hi ,

i like to tell about my own experience , i always heard many people say that there is no Difference between the MIA and MIM , so yesterday i went to know that self , so i did purchase a new MIM 2013 Guitar . in red and maple Neck . and did play it the whole day . i can see that i m really sorry . because i find out that the MIM have nothing to do with even the most cheaper MIA Guitars that i own . the sound is really different . the finish is not the same , the MIA is really a hight finish quality . and the Neck is really Comfortable . so i understand now why the MIA cost 3 times the price of one MIM .

I don't think anybody would argue there is a difference. A lot of people would argue that the difference in quality is not equal to the difference in price. Even more so when you're not in the US and end up paying much more for instruments.

I love this topic. There is a difference in quality of parts and usually the finish, but playability is purely up to the person holding the instrument and what they find comfortable. I have a $1700 deluxe and a $1100 standard that sit in their cases while I play a stock 03 mim that i scored off craigslist for $250. Why? I have the setup on the mim dialed in so perfect that I can't put it away and drag something different out. There are currently 2 other assembled mim strats in my collection that receive more playing than their US brothers. Each strat I own has different pup's so the best sounding is whatever sound I'm desiring that day. The finish on my US strats blow away my mim versions, but to compare would be an unfair assessment. Deluxe is ash body w/ tobacco and us standard is 2 tone sunburst while my mim are wine, black, natural, and blizzard pearl.

I've played 2 MIM Strats that I found to be just as good, if not better than some MIA Strat. They are the Road Worn Series and the Jimmy Vaghn Signature Strat.

Over all, I say that these things are personal taiste in nature. I've played Custom Shop guitars that I thought, "Why is this so expensive." I've played Squires, that I thought, "My god this is nice."

In the end, I think my Strats are the best: 2000 EC Strat, '04 50th Anniversary American Series Strat, a highly modified '79 and a stock '76 Strat.

Conversly, I think that the current Am. Std Strat is pretty sweet. Nice pups in those guitars.

I think a lot of people share that mindset.

This debate has been beaten to death multiple times over. No two guitars, even of the same make, are alike. You might really like that Squier you picked up at the Guitar Center. Who cares?

People spend more time worrying about what instrument they have than actually playing. There's a word for people who concern themselves with MIM vs. MIA vs. whatever -- "Insecure"

+1
My number one is a 1998 AD Fat Strat Locking. "Fat Strat" is what Fender used to call HSS guitars. It's an amazing guitar. So much so that 3 of my friends played mine and then immediately rushed out and bought one for themselves. For some intangible reason mine still seems to be more awesome than any of theirs and all four of us agree on that point but none of us can put our finger on it. Their guitars are still wonderful examples of guitar craftsmanship and playability and they play and sound great. Mine just seems to make better music and none of us can figure out exactly why. Same pickups, same string brand and gauge, same wood selection on the body and the fretboard, same hardware. I did the setup myself on all four of the guitars and I set them up to how I like them as close to each other as I could get them. I'm not going to go all "Eric Johnson" on you and say it's because they are different colours but that's about all that is different in terms of specifications. Even with CNC machining and consistent pup winding done my machine you sometimes run into a dud or a star. My friends don't have duds but I have a star.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

It sounds like the original poster is already convinced his new MIM isn't worth it. I wonder if he's going to return it?

I love the threads where people want to know if their new guitar is fake.
Or if they paid too much. Or what model it is.

Yeah I had to read it again just to figure out what he was saying.
But upon second reading I believe your right.

Remember you get what you pay for.
Is Fender going to cut its own throat with its own product? No.
Fender sort of does it like this, if you wont give them $1099 for an American Stratocaster then they got one half as good for half the price from a third world country.
Then if you dont have $500 they got one from Indonesia for $199.
At no time would a company or does a company make their budget import better than their flagship product.

I wish that were true. You rarely get more than you pay for, but you often get less.

The quality of my guitars is, honestly, not proportional to their cost. Sometimes they weren't worth what I paid for them.
My $800 MIM Tele Thinline '72 RI is an example. It's an okay guitar, but no more than okay. In retrospect, I think it should have been sold for $350-400 new.
I can't sell it for what I think it's worth used, because then the buyer would just turn around and sell it at a profit to some unsuspecting buyer. And I won't sell it for more than it's worth. So I'm stuck with an okayish cheap and overpriced guitar.

Yep lesson learned a guitar made in a third world country is still just a guitar made in a third world country. NAFTA Sucks.
