Hmm.. I'm a namer too, but haven't thought of a name for my Strat-to-be yet. I've named things before, in fact I named my old dirtbike Flossie, she was a Yamaha TTR250 that I ended up shattering my right tib/fib upon.. I sold her pretty quickly after that, I'm a quick learner, haha!

As for guitars I have a Magnum acoustic I've imaginatively named Maggie, and my Strat-to-be is a MIM Standard HSS in Midnight Wine. The to-be is that she's on layby, and I won't have her for a couple of months I guess until I pay her off. Buying a house is the absolute death knell for luxury spending!

Anyway, wine red.. hmm. I guess.. Merlot since it's my favourite drop?! Maybe with putting this Strat and a glass of the real stuff together I might put out some nice tunes on a lazy evening!

Well, it'd be either that or Sangria, in honour of her Mexican origins!

I have named my guitar after a few months of having my fender strat and I named it after Stevie Ray Vaughan because stevie ray only played one guitar eventhough he had several others he only played one giutar on stage and thats how I'm I only like to play the guitar I have because it just feels more comfortalbe with me to play my guitar than playing some other guitar that just doesn't fit me so I named my fender strat Stevie Ray

That's very honorable dude, but she's a lady - Stevie Ray called his guitars "her, she" when he referred to them - you gotta have a woman's name! Just IMO though.

Stevie Ray didn't have all of his guitars named with woman names, he named one of his guitars that was given to him Lenny, but i get what you are saying

Wasn't Lenny the name of his wife?

Oh btw SRV played more than one guitar on stage. I have one audio dvd were he played two other guitars more than he played his number one strat.

She's a 3 colour sunburst strat.

Well, heres an idea, take an average word that means something to you (High Tide for me) and translate it into a romance language, it usually comes out sounding beuatiful.

On my guitar, High Tide (she's blue) translated into Alta Marea -> So now her name's Alta Marea

www.freetranslation.com use that

I think that the guitar has to be a girls name and the amp has to be a real manly name or a cool nick name for example My strat Susan My amp BIG DAWG

I named my Strat sure. I call her "Autumn" cause it just looks like Autumn to me, self explanatory really. I'll post a pic below.

I think in general the pros name their guitars for a few reasons. One is they're superstitious people. Also, for most rockstars a good guitar lasts longer than a woman; so they come to trust the guitar more, lol. And if you're using a multitude of guitars for touring or recording, you're constantly referring to them. You might ask a roadie to tune up a certain guitar in Open G for slide, or a producer might tell you to use a different guitar for rhythm or something. After a while most things get nicknames to keep them distinguishable from one another. Sure Clapton named some of his guitars, but mostly the names were just descriptions, "Blackie," "Brownie" etc.

Plus if you go back to the classic rock hippie days, people named all kinds of stuff, trees, cars, guitars, etc.

Anyway here's a pic of "Autumn" she's an American Deluxe V-Neck Strat. I added that pickguard, it's a black guard with a thin sheet of walnut glued to the top.

I've always named those articles in my life that I've relied upon for utility as well as pleasure. Cars, computers, weapons as well as guitars have names in my household.
