The instrument appears to be authentic but it looks like it's had a very crude refinish. Florida oranges have less peel than that paint job.

The seller claims that it is a 2 custom color candy apple red over fiesta red. I have never seen such thing on a Fullerton.

Also the neck date says Mar 7 - 1984 penciled when it supposedly should be 3 - 7 - 1984. I have only seen Mar, Apr etc on stamped necks not penciled.

What do you think?

Nor I on a regular production instrument from that era. It may be a "custom" finish but Fender didn't apply it.

Send the serial number to Fender and see what they have to say about it.

Is there any form or where I can ask Fender about this?

Send an e-mail to consumerrelations@fender.com

It may take a day or so (especially with the holiday weekend) but they'll get back to you.

I have an '82 57 Vintage Reissue and the date on the neck is the 10-24-1982 format...if that helps

Looks to me like it was close to a fire and the paint blistered. Or a bad refinish like arjay said.

+1

Definitely some kinda wonky business going on.

I'd toss it back into the sea and troll for another fish.

Maybe both. IMO the Fiesta looks like the original finish.

If the seller is asking anywhere near Fullerton RI dollar, leave that guitar alone.

i might be wrong but, fender never put an orange drop cap in vintage ri guitars. could also be a red flag. someone may have tinkered with the electronics.also it has a piece of coax cable to the jack from the volume pot.

I think the orange drop cap is common on the Fullertons?

Another curious thing is that the neck date, Mar 7, is George Fullerton's birthday, he was 61 that day in '84.

standard laquer spray can paint over a sanding dust covered body, not even wet "tack" cloth'd before spraying......what's weird about that?
