I'm trying to sell my strat. I bought it off ebay a year ago. I paid $500 for it but I'm not sure if I paid to much however. But it's a 57' reissue made in mexico in 2006. I put a mint green pick guard on it after I bough it. I'm not sure how low to sell it because people are offering me $200 which I think is a little low.

here's some pictures

Whatever you can con some shmuck into paying is what it's worth.

The incorrect pickguard is certainly a liability. You'll do better returning the instrument to stock trim.

Even if you don't have the original pickguard anymore, get one that actually fits.
Then give it a good clean and shine before taking pictures.

No it's not. There are no reissues MIM. It might be a "Classic Series 50s", and with the extra holes from the wrong pick guard, it's probably worth less than what you paid. If you could put the correct PG back on, it might fetch $400, and you should disclose that there are extra holes.

So if I put on the original white pickguard would it be worth around 300-350?

The pick guard I put on fits the guitar but I lost a screw which I can get another.

If I really liked the guitar I'd want the original pickgaurd. Which means yeah get another (correct) screw.

We can see the finish of the guitar through the hole, but no hole. And a couple of the screws look different from the others. So sorry, I have my doubts that you recall correctly. The visual evidence so far points to you putting an 11 hole pickguard on an 8-hole body, using two extra screws.
That also means you have made some new holes in the body.

I'd say $300 is about right, $350 with the original bag/strap/bar/spring. Less if visible fretboard/fret wear or there are other problems affecting playability. It's Mexican, modified and has visible dings and scratches (not that we've seen the entire guitar).
$400 would be for a very good condition, which yours isn't.

That is a classic series '50s strat, and by the looks of it it has a mint green 11 hole pickguard. This is usually installed on the 1960s style strats. To me I dont think it would affect the value that drastically as pickguards are roughly $25.

Just want to say that I was told that this pick guard would fit this guitar. There are 11 holes in the guitar for screws and 11 in the pick guard as well. I don't think I adjusted it properly but I don't see that as being a real deal breaker lol I just thought the mint green looked really cool with that shade of red. But yeah even though it's not in mint condition I probably won't take less than 300 for it because it plays really good. I personally don't care about a couple dings on a guitar. That $@!& happens, especially if you play in a band it's easy to bang it up a little while always carrying it around with you. I really only care about the sound quality number one. If i wanted a nice fender that was in mint condition I'd expect to pay than $300 for it. Thanks for the answers guys, I appreciate it.

... Yada... yada... yada...

On it's Best Day - $275... Tops !!

(from me at least... and I don't want it).

That's not to say there ain't some Sucker who'll go $300... or even $350... if you can wait to find them.

But, if you need to sell it now... $275.

There's just nothing significant about it... Fender made about 1,500/yr.

cheers !!

There can not be 11 holes, notice that the screw that is missing has no wood under it, which is just like the originals from the '50s. Later, in the '60s Strats, and on the "Classic Series '60s", there was a shoulder added in the control cavity for the 10 and 11 hole PGs. This guitar in original condition only had 8 screw holes to match the 8 hole PG that came with the guitar.

Considering the price of these guitars new, I would say that it isn't unreasonable to expect to get close to $400 for it, provided that an 8 hole PG is installed, and not much fret wear.

The way it sits?
I'd be one of those dudes offering $200 but there is a reason for that.

To me it looks like an unremarkable guitar that has been messed with and is not exactly in the best condition. More importantly I really do not like the colour scheme. That wintergreen mint guard should never have been put on it. Yuck!

You'll have to forgive me on that point as I personally do not believe those mint guards have any right to exist. Those guards were the inspiration for invention of the term Fugly.

+1

Mint green is definitely not the prettiest crayon in the box but this color is historically accurate to those who prefer a vintage-spec vibe. However these 3-ply pickguards are really only period-correct for Strats produced between roughly 1960 and mid 1964. And used with some custom colors they absolutely look like raw azz (the reds in particular). For a red guitar, I prefer white or parchment.

If you can pull it off, red with black (or black with red) is a striking combination, bringing associations to Kraftwerk, Wilko Johnson and other minimalists or anarchists.

But the ugliest combo I've seen was probably a nice charcoal strat (think Clapton) at the GC used section, that someone had put a tortoiseshell pickguard on as well as a mudflap girl sticker. I wanted to save it, but it was overpriced.
