Thought I would share a story with fellow Fender fans.

Back in 2004 I bought a Fender MIM Satin Strat (Midnight Wine). I hated the finish but it but it played really nice and was such a deal I couldn't say no. I thought to myself, it can always be refinished and customized (it was, several times; now it's solid black). Well a few years went by and someone gave me a Duncan hot-rails pup so I put it in the bridge. Sounded really great. I had a really good bond with this guitar. Well... after a while I got a hankerin' for a Jazz Bass. A friend of mine bought the strat, and I took the cash and bought the bass. I told the dude (who is notorious for pawning stuff) that "if you ever need to pawn this strat for some quick cash, call me, I will loan you the cash, no problem." Several more years went by....

Lo and behold...
We never really go to pawn shops but out of nowhere as we're approaching it on the highway the wife and I decide to go to A******n Pawn shop. Just to take a look around. We walk back to the musical instrument department, and behold! The strat that I sold my friend was sitting on the counter with a $289.00 price tag on it! I whip out the phone and call him...

me: “hey man, do ya still have that strat I sold ya?”
him: “yeah man, I got it right here.”
me: “well I'm at the pawn shop and am looking at it on the counter for sale.”
him: “What? Naw, that's not the same guitar.”
me: “dude. Yes it is.”
him: “well damn. I didn't realize the pawn ticket expired.”
me: “I'm buying it from the pawn shop. Think I'm gonna keep it this time.”
him: “what? You wont sell it back to me?”

The dude lied to me while I was standing there in the shop looking at the strat. Well I still have it to this day, It celebrates it's 10th birthday this year. I love that guitar. There's a reason it came back...

To me, a friend is someone you trust. I may not trust my lawyer, my family, my doctor or my women, but I would trust a friend. If you can't, they shouldn't be called a friend.
Glad you got your guitar back, though.

A disappointing story contrasted with a beautiful guitar. Maybe there's a metaphor here; something about how people will always disappoint, but that a good guitar will never let you down . . . how friends may come and go, but a love of music is forever.

All that said, there is one thought I keep coming back to here: your dog sure has done a number on your door frame.

"Yeah man, I got it right here." I never learned to lie like that, especially to a "friend."

If you're in the habit of naming your guitars, that one's got to be Lassie...

I'd name it "The Black Boomerang".

That's a good one! Makes people think there's gotta be a cool story behind it.
