Going through the sell off parts bin I find this beautiful Abalone detail neck - 22 frets - uncut 41.85mm nut - looks quarter sawn - made in Asia of dark brown hardwood.

The heel width is 54mm rather than the standard Strat 56mm. Doesn't sound like much but it will wobble in the standard Strat neck pocket.

What, if anything, does it fit? If it can't be shimmed to a standard Strat I don't want to mislead anyone.

Maybe an Indonesian Squier? A Hanoi Special Sounds Strat-ish type?

I'd sell it with a very clearly worded disclaimer about the size of the heel. A lot of people who build copy guitars are just looking for something that looks kind of ok and aren't madly bothered about the quality of parts or the fit. Or the sound. Or even the playability.

If you've got a digital caliper (or just a steel rule) then maybe show that in the photo so you have a clear indication of the heel width.

As far as I know, many MIJ Fenders have a 54mm heel width, as opposed to the 2 3/16" neck heel on American/Mexican models.

It's also looks like a Telecaster neck, not a Strat. The base of the heel seems flat, not rounded like for a Strat.

So the answer would be a MIJ/CIJ Telecaster. It might look good on one of the floral ones, if they have a metric neck heel.

Reminds me of something from the Ming Dynasty.

The neck moving about once installed should not be a concern, although I use wood inserts / titanium fine thread screws for all my neck to body fitments, I have actually retrofitted inserts for the other Stratocasters I have bought and left unmodified... For a custom body a 54mm pocket would be fine since it would be routed to that width.

I would be interested in a neck like that.... as it does offer some possibilities..

Thanks for those responses, the neck will go to ebay with exacting specs, best guesses and full disclaimers. :D

They'd spot it as a fake right away. As any aficionado of authentic Ming Dynasty guitars knows, Strats from that era were hewn from a single piece of jade ;-)

...but Karl, I bought it NEW and the fella assured me it was genuine!

Again thanks everyone for responding, it's up on the bay under danagos1, and I've been as open about the specs as a Ming Dynasty Neck owner, selling for peanuts, can be.

Sorry about the deleted pics, I monkey around with photobucket while preparing a listing.

I did some fret cleaning, polishing and end dressing...new pic...

Apply the Don Rosa test.
From memory, Donald asks Scrooge how he knows that the Ming vase is real. Scrooge flicks it, and it goes "MIIING!"

I still think you need to advertise this one as a Tele neck if the original pictures weren't misleading about its shape. A flat end of the heel won't make it a good fit for Strats.

Old Scrooge McDuck knew his MINGS!

That's the 2nd time you mentioned the end of the heel arth1, am I missing something here?

It seems correct to me and I don't want to mislead anyone.

Here's a better pic of the end of the heel.

That neck should fit just fine on either a Tele or a Strat, but you would probably have to do a little shaping of the pickguard.

Yeah, the first pictures it looked straighter on the end, which would make it a bad fit for a Strat - you tend to get a gap if you force in a Tele neck on a Strat. But this has a little curve to it, so it shouldn't be bad.
It being a slightly narrower metric neck, and the fretboard overhang is probably more of a concern for someone fitting it.

All doable though, and it does look good in a slightly overdone way :D
If I were to assemble a partscaster, I might be tempted!

Thanks for the input arth1 & Dennis. It's sold and in the mail and I'll refund the buyer if he has any reservations at all.

Yeah, the Inlay is a bit much, but in the right hands and project...it might be nice.

I just have to clear all this stuff off...every freaking flat space & make room for...new stuff! :D
