Just bought a new Strat at my local music shop. It's an American Standard Strat with a serial number dating it as a 2011. The American Standard specs seem to have changed since then, it seems, at least by my looking at the Fender web-site. I'm wondering about a couple of things:

1. What kind of pickups are on this 2011 and are there any other significant spec differences?

2. Any opinions 'bout the 2011s? Good, bad, indifferent as compared to current production model?

Thanks.

Looking at the Fender Frontline from 2011 under American Standard Stratocaster (page 43 - hard copy, page 45 - PDF) it doesn't specify which pups exactly, it just says they're AlNiCo V. To my knowledge Fender does not make a pickup simply called Alnico V. I think they just called them American Standard pups but I'm not certain about that. We have a forum member named Martian who is pretty much our local pickup guru but he hasn't been quite as active on here for a while. He'd know better.

Icon. Not a word to be used lightly, but the Stratocaster® is just that. The new American Standard Stratocaster guitars are beauties to behold in sound, look and feel. Features include hand-rolled fingerboard edges, alnico V pickups, staggered tuners, improved bridge with bent steel saddles and copper-infused high-mass block for increased resonance and sustain, tinted neck, high-gloss maple or rosewood fretboard, satin neck back for smooth playability, thin-finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, and Fender® exclusive SKB® molded case.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I looked up that Frontline resource, BMW. That's right handy.

Let us know what you find... sounds like your Strat is right on the brink of when they switched to the Custom Shop Fat 50s from the US Standard single-coils. They are blowing out the remaining US Standard pups in the American Hand-Stained Honeyburst Stratocasters now.

I'm guess that's right Tiger. I don't know enough about them to say - thus my post. Not too late to return it if the newer Fat 50s are a better choice. Thus far I like it a lot, but I'm a novice and am looking for opinions.

Those pickups are nothing to sneeze at either, IMO.
