I was just thinking, why should anyone buy a high end Squier?

I understand the thinking behind buying a Bullet, even an Affinity. They are cheap and probably better than nameless imitations costing about the same. You do get the feeling that you're buying into the Fender family, even if it's not quite the real deal.

But the high end ones? They approach MIMs in price, but they're still Squiers. If you buy the best Squier on the market for the price of a Fender Modern Player or almost a Mexican Standard, are you getting a better guitar? Because you're not getting the name.

Just a thought that wouldn't leave me alone all day.

IMO the Classic Vibe guitars are nicer than the MIM Standard Series. To my ears and hands they outperform the low end MIM products. I find that the Classic Vibe Series are actually quite nice instruments. That is my opinion, but as they say YMMV.

I also don't particularly care what it sys on the headstock.

The higher end Squiers aren't all that bad but, if not incorrect, you're looking at lower grade hardware (tuners, bridge & pickups). Also believe the bodies are slimmer. For the extra... It's a good deal to go w/ the Mexi's IMO. Overall, they seem to have a better build quality along with better hardware.
BUT... if you don't have the scratch... you can still get a decent guitar. They sound pretty good, play pretty good too. The trems are not that great but the pickups are O.K.

Feel the Squiers are a great guitar for someone starting out... Why spend more if you're not sure if the guitar is your thing or... not sure if your kid(s) are going to stick with it?

I recently purchased a Classic Vibe Strat. It looked great and had a great sound. But, when I went to do a setup on the guitar, the truss rod would not budge. I've always done all of my setups on my guitars, so I am familiar with how to do it correctly. I've never run into an issue like that with a new guitar. I did put enough pressure on it to loosen it maybe 1/16 of a turn. But it was more pressure than I was comfortable putting on it. And when it did turn, it made a creeking noise, much like an old rusted bolt on an old car would make. I went no further with it and immediately took it to GC for a refund. I bought online, which was probably a mistake. But, they were very cool about it. Just took it back and gave me store credit. The frets on the Squier were visibly uneven, looking down the neck and the neck appeared, even to the naked eye, to have a twist to it. So, I let them know about these issues and they gladly took it back. I used that store credit, and a little extra cash, to get a MIM HSS. Holding the MIM strat, i was immediately convinced that I had made the right choice by not swapping for another Squier. I'm not saying they are all like the one I got. For all I know, it was a return that some idiot messed up and then returned as if he just didn't want it. It could also just be a quality control issue, and I happened to get lemon.

I'm not against Squier at all. I have a Vintage Modified 5 string Jaguar bass that I absolutely love! So, I'm sure that a "good" Squier would have been a great purchase. I just happened to get one that wasn't so good.

All that being said, I've played several Squier, MIM and MIA Strats. And even the MIM just seem to have a higher quality feel to them. And you DO get nicer hardware. The hardware on the Squier wasn't bad. Just not as solid and smooth as on a MIM. Plus, the MIM hardware actually says "Fender" on it. Which, whether it makes it better or not, can give you warm and fuzzy that the unbranded hardware might not.

Some Squiers are different than some MIM's--so some people will buy Squier for that reason.

I've been looking at fretless basses, but also looking at fretted J Basses as well.
Around here the MIM J-Bass is about twice the cost of a Classic Vibe J-Bass

In the 90s Squier had a Pro-Tone line which I would have put up against any modern MIM any day of the week! But I would not purchase any Squier product today if I had the choice of going MIM. MNSHO!

+1
Ive owned four Telecasters in my life, two Mex and one American.
They were sold a year after I bought the Classic Vibe 50's.
My guitars are players.
And that was the only one I ever picked up and the only one that left the house anymore.

Why should anyone buy a high end Squier? The way I see it, why should it be dismissed on name alone? Pick one up, try it, feel it, hear it, see it, then make your decision.

There you go. I think it's great that Fender offers some nice guitars across the board, weather it's from the Custom Shop or even down to the occasional, every once in a while, better than expected Squier Bullet.

The Squier Classic's are well executed model, they are cost effective and I have picked up a couple which I would have no problem's owning to play....
There was a time when Squier was the only manufacturing site for Fender guitars, albeit briefly.
I wouldn't deride the Squier branding, there is more to this entire line than just bottom budget Bullet's and Affinitty's ...

This is the only Squier I have ever owned. It is a "Vintage Modified" line. The only thing I did to it was change to MIA Tele Std pups. The neck is great with (shockingly) nice figuring, and the body included the high-end Shoreline Gold paint. Perfect intonation, and even the tuners on the Squier are good. I think I paid $230 on a black Friday a few years back. Great guitar for the money.

The Squier I ever thought of buying was a thin line.
