Hi guys,

I am looking for some information about a Strat Guitar which has a MZ2 + six digit serial number and rare, metallic colour (Gun Metal Blue, they say) which you can see on the photos. Could anybody possibly identify the colour, tell my why it is non-standard, and authenticate the guitar?
I think there are many things in favour of the originality of my guitar (as being Fender Stratocaster MIM Standard of course). For example, the screws on the back plate are non-symmetrical (which is good), the serial number and logo on the head seem legit (good quality of printing), keys and bridge have Fender logo on it. There is also a date stamp and a 'signature' on the back of the pickguard. Furthermore, you can see some stamps and barcodes when you take the pickguard off. What does not look original is the bridge pup. I think it was changed by the first owner. The guitar feels and sounds pretty good, only the colour and pearl pickguard make me think it is a bit non-standard. I did not disassemble the neck, do not want to mess anything up ;)

Nobody can help? Are the pictures showing up now? Maybe I have to reupload them?
In the meantime, I wrote to Fender. They said the neck is probably Fender-made but they do not have that serial number in their system! As they explained to me, it might happen when the guitar is send overseas or a typo occurs. On the other hand, 'The Guitar Dater Project' shows probable info when my serial number is typed into their database.
Any clues, as far as originality of this guitar is concerned?

Looks like a MIM standard to me, I don't see anything that says otherwise. The pickguard might have been changed, but other than that it looks like a legitimate MIM standard.

I'd say it's likely real, if nothing else because who would fake a MIM? That'd be like selling fake Casio watches...

Well, everything is being faked now and that very conviction of yours ('nobody would fake a MiM because it is a cheap guitar') is exactly the thing that the forger wants to exploit. Everybody is careful and aware when buying a 1000$ MIA and as the price declines - so does the awareness.
The thing that made me look for information about this particular guitar is the rare color I can't identify, pearl pickguard and serial number that is missing from Fender database (some people say they tend to miss some MiM serial numbers). I would like to sell this guitar in the near future and I want to be honest about its origin.
Anyway, many people say it is original, maybe a FSR send directly overseas.
Thanks!

It looks real to me.
Sadly, they do make fake Casio watches.
