The only changes made to the American Standard HSS affected the two single coils in the neck & middle positions.

The Tex Mex pickups were replaced by a pair of Custom Shop Fat 50s singles in 2012. The Diamondback humbucker remained unchanged.

Your guitar sports two Tex Mex single coils and the Diamondback in the bridge.

The specs for a Fender Diamond back are as follows 8.3k ohms with Alnico 5 magnet. AKA as DH-1, Tex Mex and Standard Humbucker.

Has 8.3k always been the spec. I read somewhere that it was 17k. I notice the Fender Diamond back is now on the fender web site and it's 8.3k. Has 8.3k always been the spec? Thanks for all of the info.

Yes, they actually read between 8.3k - 8.7k

Fender only makes actually 4 humbuckers.

The DH-1 Alnico 5 Standard is also a neck spaced and it gets called whatever its coupled with, for instance Atomic Neck, Standard Neck, Enforcer Neck, Black Canyon (when with Side Winder) etc.

The Standard DH-1 8.3k Alnico 5 Bridge Humbucker AKA Tex Mex AKA Diamondback etc.

The Hot Rod DH-1 15.7k Alnico 5 Bridge AKA ATOMIC

The Side Winder 24k Ceramic Bridge AKA The Enforcer

I spent time on the phone with Customer Service looking up specs after checking all these pickups. After a while the guy came clean and Rob confimed in an email that they're all the same only the names have changed.
Marketing names he said.

They also have covers for the standard and split the adjustable pole pieces to 3 a bobbin and call it the Wide Range.

It is also important to note that production of the humbuckers has moved to Mexico.
I myself personally think they did not change in sound if anything only got better.
I am not as impressed with Mexico's single coil work but their humbuckers are nice.

What year did production of the Fender humbuckers go to Mexico. Ido not mind pickups being made in Mexico. Tex-Mex pickups are one of my favs.

I really dont know the year it happened in the 2000s, I just noticed the packages they came in went from saying Made in USA to Made in Mexico.
You can still find the Made in USA on eBay but honestly they are not much different.

Here is some data I saved on the Atomic DH-1 pretty good info straight from the man.

ill Turner - Fender R&D

The "Atomic Humbucker" was merely a product name chosen to highlight the Toronado and Cyclone guitar models. This pickup is featured in the bridge position on the Am.Dlx. Fat Strat, and it is called the DH-1(Bridge). It is also featured in the bridge position of the Floyd Rose HH and HSS Classic Strats, and is also called the DH-1.

The differences between the models are only in appearance. The Cyclone having black and white bobbins, the Toronado having a nickle silver chrome plated cover, the Am.Dlx. Fat Strat DH-1 having aged white bobbins, and both Floyd Classic
DH-1`s have white bobbins. They are available through Fender parts and accessories, and I will see about getting the part numbers listed for each of the models, and posted for your info.

The Atomic Humbucker and the DH-1 are wired in a standard series Humbucking config.

DC resistance: 16.4K Ohms
Inductance: 8.2 Henries
Magnet: Alnico 5

The pickup pole piece spacing is extended to 2.100", to better allign the pickup with the bridge string spacing.

Here are the part numbers for the DH-1/Atomic Humbuckers.

005-3758-000, DH-1 Humbucking Bridge Pickup, White Coils
005-3689-000, DH-1 Humbucking Bridge Pickup, Chrome Cover
005-4036-000,DH-1 Humbucking Bridge Pickup,Aged White
005-3717-000,Atomic Humbucking Bridge Pickup, Black/White Coils

Mark B.

The "Atomic Humbucker" or DH-1 was intended to kick up the mids in the bridge position, and be loud. It certainly will not suit all players tastes. Some are gonna like it, and some aren`t.

All of Fender`s Humbuckers are designed and made in Corona.

Bill Turner

Any answer as to why my Diamond Back humbucker makes more noise than any of the Tex-Mex single coils?

Humbuckers always make more noise than single coils you can lower the humbucker if that's an issue, lowering it will make it quieter

Yes I understand it's an old thread, it's also a dangling unanswered thread like many in Fender forums please post some answers instead of zombie pictures?

Then what are these?
- Twin Head Modern (Alnico 5 15.2 kOhm bridge, Ceramic 10.0 kOhm neck)
- Twin Head Vintage (Alnico 5 10.5 kOhm bridge, Alnico 2 7.3 kOhm head)

(Not to mention the stacked humbuckers)
