Hey there friends :)
The other guitarist in our Tribute/ Original band bought a Charvel USA San Dimas. He had a Duncan JB Trembucker in it and wanted a Distortion right out of the box. So here was this new Duncan staring me in the face and he said take it $40. How can you resist that deal? I put it in my Parts strat first I had to file away a little on my Lonestar pickguard on each side, cant even tell I did. This pickup sounds tighter and spicier than the Atomic.
So I decided to pickup another for the American Deluxe I figured why not nothing has been sacred about it yet and I am so pleased I will be buying a Blacktop floyd pickguard and putting a 59 in the neck on it now next.

I have a SH-4 JB in a Strat's bridge position and like it a lot for certain tunes. I've heard that their TB-4 is also quite good.

I had a SD JB bridge and a Jazz humbucker neck pickup in my old partscaster ... eventually I junked them both and fitted CS54's, never looked back.

The JB has lots of output, lots of midrange and lots of ability to push an amp into distortion but that's all it can do, it's a one-trick pony of a pickup. Clean it up and the tone is just awful, muddy bass and no sparkle.

If I ever want that kind of sound again then I'll fit a Bare Knuckle Crawler, not the JB.

I always use the neck for clean and I built my own singles for neck and middle.
They are the Hot Alnico 3s that I replaced the rods with Alnico 5s they are amazing.
Yeah I play music like Down, Black Label Society and Alice In Chains this JB sounds so much better than the Atomic. I still like Atomics though, nice stuff.
If I do grab a Duncan 59 neck I will change the magnet to Alnico 2 probably.

Buy the way Frank I did work with strats and caps I noticed that Strats are not nearly as affected by caps and actually the stock Fender caps are the best sounding.
Now with my Les Pauls, Caps had HUGE impacts on tone.
But with my Strats it just was either nothing much or undesirable.

Really I'm biased, I just don't particularly like humbuckers. Or neck pickups. And I always disconnect tone pots, got no use for them. But the JB was an almost useless pickup for me, no idea why I stuck with it for so long.

Right on Frank well we all got our ways and most of us are dead set on them.
Sometimes its hard for us to remember the other guy is dead set on his ways as well.
Keeping that in mind and letting the next guy talk about his gear that he is just as excited about is the secret lol.
Well Im learning. :)

Anyway I use the Strats mostly for original work and the Les Pauls in our Ted Nugent Tribute band.

The other guitarist just talked me into buying his USA San Dimas I set it up for him and was pretty suprised. Its really just a Fender pretty much.

Wont actually get it until tomorrow unless he is still to snowed in. We got blasted by a snow storm shut the city down for two days.
I was really amazed by the Charvel its not the same guitar anymore. They are no longer Jacksons now they are Fenders. In the late 80s early 90s I had several Jacksons and Charvels they were the exact same guitar. Now the Charvel neck is an unfinished American Standard neck and the body is a strat body as well. No longer a Soloist.
I get a picture soon.
